Bunch of self-important Nancies.

BTW, most any other country in the world would take such a profoundly anti-government show off of the freaking air in a New York minute.

Let's make a deal, OK? Democracy Now can spew socialist claptrap at US taxpayer expense, and I can make a joke (a difficult concept for lefties to grasp, but try Wiki-ing "humor" and you might get a definition simple enough to grasp) about how NPR is profoundly, obviously left-wing.

That was the single worst book review/preview/overview/whatever that was that I have ever read. The person writing that column has no sense of flow, no organizational techniques, and doesn't even properly structure whatever the hell it was she was trying to get across.

My god. My brain hurts after reading that, and now I'm pissed off at life. I hope Sara Rose, the one who wrote that piss poor article, dies. I also hope she didn't get paid to write it, because the AP must really be desperate for people in the "arts".

That just ruined my day. Thanks submitter.

That original comment wasn't actually directed at you as such, but since you responded as you did I am reminded of the words of the late Bill Mauldin: "I build a shoe. If someone wants to put it on and announce loudly that it fits, that's his business".

BTW, most any other country in the world would take such a profoundly anti-government show off of the freaking air in a New York minute.

Accurately portraying the inexcusable behavior of an administration is not anti-government. It might be anti-this-government, but it is still accurate, and the truth is an absolute defense.

NPR stations also have the nerve to feature news from the BBC. Please do enlighten us as to the horrific bias inherent in the Beeb.

Weren't your people the ones that tried to co-opt the phrase 'fair and balanced'? It's rather hypocritical of you to get your knickers in a twist when another organization actually lives up to the wording.

An NPR correspondent looking for happiness is like a hooker looking for a husband among her clients. You know the story will end badly, most of the time.

Instead, the guy should leave the East Coast and go find something that he wants to do, instead of doing a meta job. Anyone in the news basically reports and/or criticizes other people for doing what they're doing - but they don't actually do anything themselves, because it's uninteresting and too risky (and they'd have to be responsible for something). Most intellectuals are drawn to meta jobs, because you can't really fail at them.

That lack of real consequence is why lots of them tend to be miserable. Then they get bitter because people dumber than them (and doing things that are substantially less intellectually challenging, even menial) get paid more and tend to have happier existences.

If you want happiness, talk to a golfer who just hit the green on a par 3 on a water hole.

I don't understand all the NPR hate either. I love "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me" and I still listen to "Car Talk" every Saturday on my way down to Detroit. NPR isn't always what I'm looking for as far as entertainment goes but why hate on it? Most of the knee-jerk criticism comes from anti-intellectual douches who have never actually listened to NPR but already KNOW that only pretentious people like it.

The difference between Comic Book Guy and Slaptyback (Yes, I have all the Eddie Izzard DVD's) is that Comic Book Guy uses ' ad nominem' correctly.

Not all the time. I like classical music so NPR is my only option on the radio. I also listen to car talk and a prarie home companion. It's NPR's news and commentary that is replete with condescending douches such as englebert that that generates the hate.
