His viewers tend to be middle-income white males, who like hearing old-fashioned prejudices tossed around, even if they know it's a bunch of crap. While they're hearing what they like, they're more inclined to be receptive to ads for things like beer, baldness cures, and impotence medications.

O'Reilly likely doesn't even believe half the crap he spits out, and probably holds his own impotent, overweight, resentful audience in exactly the same contempt that the rest of us do, but he knows a good demo when he sees it.

I'm reposting from the original thread, and I still ahven't heard the point addressed, but I'm a veteran (USAF), and grew up as a military 'brat'. There ARE homeless veterans, we all agree. But they're not homeless because of their service.
A huge percentage of those homeless guys weren't honorably discharged. Others have their 2-6 yrs of service as an almost forgotten blip in their history. Don't get outraged, but, although a minority, a lot of guys in the service enlisted because it gave them a home, a support system, free medical, etc. Once you're out, all of that ceases, and, if the VA stats are true, your background prior to enlisting was broke-ass & disfunctional, it's likely to return to the same. If you're bounced from the army, your prospects in the civilian world aren't that stellar.

Yesterday I was listening to his radio show, for some shiats and giggles, and he wouldn't take a phone call from a Ron Paul supporter but instead taunted the caller for a few minutes.

Let's just treat him for what he is: a falafel loving idiot with a persecution complex who can't handle opinions that differ from his own. That's it. He has no clue about the world outside of his big head.

I remember way back when O'Reilly first appeared on Faux Noise. I tuned in and didn't think he was all that unreasonable. I don't know if he went crazy since then or was just more restrained in the beginning.
