Why would we end the Mac and PC commercials. For some other piece of shiat Zune commercial or something?

You gotta hand it to that Tommy Carcetti. He sure reaches for the stars.

Dixon's been making all sorts of ridiculous goals lately. She's really setting herself up to go down in history as a failure.

This is an easy problem to solve, just lock them all up. Now you have 0 homeless. Lots of inmates but no homeless.

Leave it to the next guy to solve the jail overcrowding problem. :)

Is there still a little tent city by the church where 83 turns into President street downtown?

BobtheFascist 2008-01-18 12:47:48 PM
Because throwing money at it has worked so well everywhere else.

They are actually different kinds of fail, if you can believe that.

You know who else tried to come up with a final solution to the homelessness problem?

DarthBrooks [TotalFark] 2008-01-18 01:25:28 PM
Working with the state legislature and City Council to pass legislation that would make it illegal to discriminate against renters who receive government subsidies such as food stamps, Social Security or housing vouchers.

Yeah, you've got no credit, can't afford first and last months' rent as a deposit, and I can't discriminate against you because you're going to turn tricks for your meth addiction while I'm waiting 90 days for the city to pay on your voucher?

There is another solution: from a one-block perimeter of the Inner Harbor, pave everything out to Camden Yards. Greyhound Therapy for the rest.

Baltimore makes Camden seem like Beverly Hills sometimes.

Bo Giggity 2008-01-18 01:27:02 PM
I think I've heard this before...probably from Madame Speaker's daddy; the former Mayor of Baltimore. Sounds like something she would say too.

"Are there no prisons are there no workhouses"?

You either believe in social darwinism that wipes out po' folk when the weather gets bad or you believe in helping out those who need it.

Nice to see somebody in America actually try to work on a very real problem along Christian lines. Maybe Dumbya really isn't the anti-Christ after all.

This here's your grandfather. Does it scare you, to see him like this? It sure as hell scares me. The old man always said "Live by the sword, die by the sword". All this time, he was the biggest player in Baltimore. Survived all this shiat. Now, he's lying here in this bed. farking natural causes. Scares the shiat out of me.

kitschnsync [TotalFark] 2008-01-18 01:38:42 PM
This is a worthy goal, but it is isn't terribly newsworthy on the national level.

Just about every major city has come up with a 10-year, 7-year, or 5-year plan to end homelessness lately. It is the trendy thing to do, and a longterm end date means that no one will expect results while the mayor is in office.

Lip service.

I've never understood how America considers itself in any way affiliated with Christianity with the way it treats people. It's the worst case of cognitive dissonance I've ever witnessed.

I'm not crazy about the McNulty story line right now. Seems far-fetched that he'd go that far.

Why not just inform the media that they stopped funding on the hunt for 22 murders?

Anyway, I'd just like to add:

Pandemic!

Who cares about the Mac vs. PC commercials? It's the Alltel "Chad" commercials that need to be destroyed.

some people actually enjoy being homeless. nothing you can do about that.

Suicidal Writer 2008-01-18 02:23:34 PM
I can't believe the richest country in the history of the Galaxy has farking homeless people. It's sickening, especially since so many have issues that are beyond their control. I'm not talking about the vagrants who really just want to take it easy, or the backpackers. I'm talking about those who simply cannot put their life together.

Well, you see, we've got way too many people who think like this:

* Half-hearted programs to deal with drug addiction and mental illness: BAD.
* Unlimited funds to blow shiat up in Iraq: GOOD.

This even though (a) you are vastly more likely to lose your job or contract a major illness than ever cross paths with a terrorist and (b) Iraq didn't have a farking thing to do with 9/11.

RQB1018 2008-01-18 02:41:40 PM
Yeah, that's the problem.

Not enough half-hearted programs to deal with drug addiction and mental illness.

The war on poverty makes the war in Iraq look like a rousing success.

Look, the point is that we feel like we're doing something to help. It's about the expiation of guilt, you Silly Billy, not actually fixing our society's problems.

Shaggy_C 2008-01-18 02:58:32 PM
You know what we need for the homeless? Some kind of 'final solution' to end the problem once and for all. Hmm...

oihorse 2008-01-18 03:01:26 PM
Wait.... there is homeless people in Baltimore City?

I thought O'Malley said that he fixed the problem and left the city better off with less crime and poverty.

Something fishy is going on here...

Have there been missteps? Yes. You can't just throw money at a problem. There are serious issues that must be addressed from a sociocultural perspective, a psychsocial perspective, and various other perspectives.

Let's also keep it real. We elect people who don't want effective government to work. Nordic states don't have poverty issues like we do because their governments believe in effective government. I'm a small government guy but that is because I believe it can be effective.

America, as a society, just doesn't want to admit the social and economic determinism is a reality. The American Dream is not attainable for most.

Anavrinman [TotalFark] 2008-01-18 03:44:49 PM
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Unless he plans on wiping b-more off the map, then no dice. No baltimore = no homeless people in baltimore

elkev 2008-01-18 03:48:58 PM
I wonder if these are the same city business and social service leaders that are currently getting subpeoned by the SA? Once again, the mayor is playing games with other people's money, how much you want to bet these State and Federal grants are going to go to people who've invested heavily in her campaign funds?

This city stinks.
