(National Review) Sad Next on the list of things to worry abut: a war between the Wazir and the Mahsud in South Waziristan. And despite what you may think, these names have not been pulled from a Dr. Seuss book or a Marx Brothers movie   (corner.nationalreview.com) divider line 19

Just as long as nothing happens in Freedonia or Farkistan...

What is going on here?

Sounds like a textbook case of divide and conquer to me, Bill.

It's difficult to figure out exactly what is going on at this distance.

Can someone explain to me why this would be bad for us?

Degree Absolute: Can someone explain to me why this would be bad for us?

America will naturally try to meddle.

If there's one thing (on a very long list) of things you simply DO NOT do, it's get involved in a private war between two tribal factions in the region.

Waziristan is a problem all of a sudden? S'rsly?

You mean the place that the Taliban began in and the current HQ of AQ in the region is gonna get some attention now? Good call. Perv Mushmouth over in WhackyPakistan was cool with them while they were just sending their ulalating whackjobs over the Iraqi and Afghani borders to kill Yanks, Canucks and other allies but ever since he killed Bhutto through his internal security services he's been blaming them for all the current violence in his home of the nuclear fire sale. Why is this? Cos now they are sending whackjobs into Pakistan itself (horrors!).

Done right it would be the first real attempt to take down an actual terrorist base.

That would actually be a good thing.

/It won't get done right, in case you were wondering.

It would appear that the Curse of the 'Stan Suffix has stuck again.

It's like the Curse of Kennedy without the rolls of fat and the troubles with keeping various vehicles from sinking/crashing/etc. Not to mention dead chicks.

Kind Regards,
Your Friendly Neighborhood Overlords,
The Wazirs'

Listen libtard, there isn't a problem in the world that can't be solved via JDAM.

Oh I forgot, it's ok if they kill each other, but it's bad when we try to lend a hand to free them. Right.

"It's difficult to figure out exactly what is going on at this distance, but ...

"But again, it is very difficult to know anything for certain."

"What is going on here? Again, it's very tough to tell ..."

"In short, whereas Noor Muhammad's rebellion pitted the Wazirs against a de facto alliance between the government and the Mahsuds, the current conflict seems to pit the Mahsuds, under the leadership of Baitullah Mahsud, against a de facto alliance between the government and the Wazirs."

"But again, I emphasize that this is simply preliminary speculation on events that are extremely difficult to piece together."

In Summary:

Did we mention it's not about the oil?
