It's the end of jury duty as we he knows it - at least for Michael Stipe

They were afraid that jury deliberation would just turn into the other jurors asking him over and over, "Seriously, your past few albums have just sucked. What's wrong?"

Well that is interesting. A song writer that preaches tolerance and that we should all do our part to help the world be a better place ditches a civic responsibility because he can't impartially judge a person due to his own past experiences that have nothing to do with the presumed innocent person being charged.

He's not innocent...he snuck into a girls washroom at a school and waited for someone to come in. He's guilty of something nasty.

Stipes is an ass for not being able to control himself enough to serve the community, as is his duty.

Which one is Stipe and which is the sexual deviant?

He got out of this case because he's gay. Any straight man would love to sit on this trial and hear all the steamy details.

/right?
//RIGHT!?

It's your civic responsibility not to serve on a jury if you are biased, moron. Start with Twelve Angry Men...

Why the hate? Maybe he's right, much in the same way where I live you'll never see a Maori/young person on the jury for a drug related case, as the lawyers veto them all thinking they'll be biased.

I got out of jury duty the one time I was called up simply by walking up to the judge and telling him I had a very important assignment due that week (which I honestly did).

He kinda looked like the guy on trial, and besides he would probably just try to sit in the corner....

If a potential juror can admit to his biases, and thus be excused due to his/her bias, I think that makes the legal system that much better. It has a long way to go to be perfect though. Saying you can be a fair, impartial juror, when you know you can't, is just wrong.

It seems more likely that the defense rejected any potential jurors who had ever been victims of crimes. The headline is misleading since Stipe was only a potential juror, not one of the final select group.

/In other words, don't accuse him of bucking civic duty.
//You can still accuse him of recent shiatty music, however.
