Well at least Uwe Boll's latest turd didn't register at all, especally after his little crybaby rant (new window) against First Sunday.

Great. It was bad enough when we all had to worry about avoiding chick flicks. Now we have to worry about avoiding old fart flicks.

I dunno about you folks, but I'd ten times rather watch an elephant seal play with a bucket than see this film, if the previews give any indication of its quality.

DarkScarab 2008-01-13 08:38:36 PM
I see this as a short stay at number one. Cloverfield comes out next weekend. Looking forward to seeing it Friday. But who knows if it will have the draw to overtake Bucket List.

What's Cloverfield about? I like apocalyptic stuff, but the preview I saw was rather 'Godzilla monster-ish'.

"It's one of the few times a movie anchored by senior citizens could rule the box office at No. 1."

That's because it has JACK FARKIN' NICHOLSON in it. Of course it's going to do good. Jack Nicholson just kicks ass.

theorellior 2008-01-13 08:45:08 PM
black_knight: Jack Nicholson just kicks ass plays the same character over and over again ad nauseum.

FIFY.

It was watchable and definitely held your attention, but it was by no means great. I give it 5 thumbs up (out of 10).

Yeah, it's a monster attack movie, but done through the eyes of people on the street with hand held cameras. Kind of in the style of Blair Witch. But you actually get to see the monster I hear. Looks interesting. Been waiting for it since the trailer before Transformers.

SweetSilverBlues 2008-01-13 08:48:42 PM
Cloverfield - An overhyped monster/alien/mutant flick. Not knowing what the monster/alien/mutant is does not increase my desire to see yet another rehash of a classic Godzilla film.

And subby, +1. I giggled.

"The Bucket List" might have been more interesting if they had cast against type; Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman play two old men. One is crusty and irritable, one is a likable and gentle man.

Since both men are fine actors, it would have been an interesting creative choice to have Nicholson play the "lovable old coot" and Freeman to play the "grumpy old man".

DarkScarab 2008-01-13 08:52:46 PM
Vs. another overhyped, aging buddy, life-adventure flick? Give me the monsters. But different strokes I guess. Never said Cloverfield was going to be Oscar worthy, just saying it's a fairly big release.

theorellior 2008-01-13 08:56:15 PM

There are some rumors that it's based on the Lovecraft mythos, which would be in interesting concept.

Thanks for the info, even though it doesn't sound like my type of movie.

Oops. Movie theaters might want to invest in barf bags, then.

Didn't mean for my post to sound like it was singling you out. I have an extremely low opinion of Hollywood films as it is. I have no intention of seeing Bukket, either.

Heh, a friend of mine's rants on "I Am Legend" are truly hilarious, though.

Thank You, good sir, for pointing out that the original "walrus" in the Walrus Bucket Saga is in fact an Elephant Seal. My inner nerd salutes you.

Ellen Page is amazing. I know her from Trailer Park Boys, but was blown away by "Hard Candy", but now I'm speechless. Get this girl a statue!

WFern: My personal favorite, via Roger Ebert:

"The Bucket List" is a movie about two old codgers who are nothing like people, both suffering from cancer that is nothing like cancer, and setting off on adventures that are nothing like possible. (new window)

Hollywood cancer is totally badass, though.

Oh, don't get me started on I am Legend. I'll just leave it as that ending sucked and not get into the specifics of the suckiness.

I kind of liked the preview, but after seeing reviews it seems that as usual they showed the best stuff, and the ONLY reason is to see the interaction between the two stars, since the script itself is really bad.
