Only break one law at a time.
If you are speeding, don't carry pot. If you have a tail light out, don't carry pot. If you carry pot, don't do anything else illegal.

Not to defend these idiots, but why are police allowed to search a vehicle during what sounds like a routine traffic stop? Isn't that illegal search and seizure?

Chariset: Not to defend these idiots, but why are police allowed to search a vehicle during what sounds like a routine traffic stop? Isn't that illegal search and seizure?

Depends on what happened after the search. If the cops had articulable facts to justify a reasonable suspicion to search (lower legal standard than probable cause), they legally can do.

Or maybe the idiotic driver gave consent. Pick your poison.

Chariset: Not to defend these idiots, but why are police allowed to search a vehicle during what sounds like a routine traffic stop?

Because pot turns people into morons.

Ever wonder why your country, it's culture, commerce, political system, free press, school system, spirituality, diet, etc. etc. is in the toilet? It's cause too many of it's otherwise intelligent citizens have their synapses gummed up with a green goo called THC.

Government by the people ceases to exist when the people use their freedom to lobotomize themselves. So there's no use defending the civil liberties of snickering, emotionally stunted retards who suck marijuana since, given the first opportunity, they'll short-circuit their humanity and capacity for cooperative functioning anyway.

Better to bust their asses before that cargo hits the streets and multiplies the damage like a hepatitis of stupidity.

No. According to the US Supreme Court, and virtually every stat in the Union, you have sacrificed almost every 4th Amendment right left (not that there were many left in the first place) by having a driver's license.

This is because by driving a car, you are theoretically putting other people's lives at risk should you be doing something illegal (drinking, smoking, having sex while driving), and their rights to be safe come before your rights to do something illegal.

That said, once you have done ANYTHING illegal, the cop still has to ask, "Mind if I search your vehicle?" If you say NO!, what happens next depends on what happened before that. If you were polite, said sir/ma'am a lot, didn't have any warrants, were white, looked professional, etc., you may get away. If you were rude, threw some attitude, were black/hispanic, driving a car that looked like it might be hiding some drugs, etc., then the cop is calling for the dog, and there's not a damn thing you can do about it.

50,000 grams equals roughly 112 lbs. That's a lot of weed. They probably smelled it and that gave them probable cause to search. If the driver refused, they would have brought in a dog. Either way, these guys were dumb for not obeying every traffic law to the letter.

I think that is because of all the high profile police perpetrated murders lately. Most people are just hoping they can visit their grandmother without getting tazered for smelling like a criminal.

In Baltimore, a cop was found to have raped a 16 year-old girl INSIDE the police station. Lucky for him the police union had his back so he was only asked to resign without ANY punishment.

In Chicago, a survey of prostitutes has led to the conclusion that cops are over 10 times more likely to extort a prostitute than to arrest them.

People don't "let" the police search their cars any more than they "let" the mafia take a percentage of their small business revenues

$300,000 for 50,000 grams? Thats some farked up math.

It they are selling it:
By the kilo, thats $500 per kilo $150,000
by the pound, thats $2700
by the qp, thats $680
by the ounce, thats $170
by the quarter, thats $40
by the gram, thats $6

This formula only works if they are splitting it up, and selling by the gram, which they aren't doing. I don't know what the street value of 50,000 grams is, but assuming they are splitting it by the ounce, they would have be selling the best shiat known to man.

I have never seen prices so high (heh, high)

Police can search the whole passenger compartment durring any stop including any locked containers there in for a weapon. It is deamed a rule for their safety

They may search the whole vehicle, with consent, if the person is on parole, probation, on bond, it is a commercial vehicle, or with a warrant. The courts also back a search if the offence renders a arrest and places the vehicle under the control of law enforcement.

Oddly if law enforcement knows before the stop that it contains drugs a warrant is required.

What they inadvertently stumble on is fair game.

That is just flat out wrong. Police have to have reasonable suspicion of criminal behavior or activity to do such a search. They just cannot legally pull over a car and start searching it with no reasonable suspicion.
