Keeping safe in your house is like any other home project: Do it yourself.

We have curbside bins for bottles, cans, glass, paper, trash and yard waste. We just need one labelled "Home intruders." You just take care of the guy and put him in your curbside bin.

I have to say, THIS. If that happened in Florida the cops could come at their leisure to take the fecking body away. Why would the call taker want to speak with the home invading burglar. Why would any idiot let the burglar use his phone.

I know many Californians perfer not to own guns, but it sure would be hard for the guy to talk to the dispatcher after I stuck a freaking fondue fork in his eye.

I was in San Jose a month or so ago and the cops were looking for someone as I was walking a few blocks back from First Street to the hotel at the convention center. They stopped me and asked for ID and I gave them my license. They called it in (I suppose many middle aged CPA looking guys are the criminals they seek) and found that I have a Florida weapons permit. They asked to see it and then asked why I brought it (not a weapon the freaking card) to California. They were all bent out of shape that I was allowed to carry a gun in Florida. Why did I bring the card? Because it is in my fecking wallet. Very, very strange place that California.

It has been 9 years since I was there last, and frankly I will be pleased if I never have to go there again. I went there for meetings for two days and since the firm I work for has an office there I have had $63 sucked out of my pay for Californa Income tax, which I have to file a form to get it refunded. Even NYC does not tax me on the week or so a year I spend in the city for meetings.

This reminds me of the joke about the man who calls the police saying someone is breaking in to his shed. The police say that there is going to be a delay of at least twenty minutes due to other more pressing things. The guy hangs up, then five minutes later he calls back and tells the cops that now there's no rush as the burglar has been shot dead. Within minutes a half dozen pollice cars are at his house and the cops find the burglar, still alive, still breaking in. The cops ask the homeowner, I thought you said you shot him, to which the homeowner replies, I thought you said you were all too busy to come here.
