Considering one of the examples cited is the Oracle at Delphi, which was situated over cracks in the earth that vented hallucinogenic and possibly toxic gasses, I'm not convinced.

Besides, it's a lot easier and cheaper to stay up three days straight and tank up on Fruity Pebbles and Jolt.

Gotta be BS. I dropped acid the other day. There's really no other way I'm going to see beautifully intricate fractals without ingesting some kind of psychedelic drug. And my friend and I went to an art museum and looked at the old Italian art with all the crosshatching and the figures almost came alive on the paper.

There is nothing else that's going to give you that kind of awesome psychedelic effect, ESPECIALLY a bunch of cheap sound and light gadgets.

i downloaded idoser and brainwave generator a while ago. brainwave generator works, im not sure about idoser. it works good if u want to have a lucid dream. i gave it to a friend, she tried it on the first night and she had a lucid dream. i keep pulling the earbuds out of my ears in my sleep tho

Lars The Canadian Viking 2008-01-13 07:44:53 PM
The only people who believe this shiat works have not done real visionary drugs. Go smoke some DMT or salvia and try to tell me they are even vaguely on the same level.

Yeah meditation does some stuff, but drugs kick its ass.

I got a pirated copy and tried it. Smoked pot one day, then tried the software. I damn near laughed it was so pointless. I-doser is snake oil. Go smoke weed like a real man.

Days without sleep during a nervous breakdown and non-stop panic attacks will get you seeing and hearing some weird shiat. None of it very enjoyable though, I must say.

Don't waste your hard-earned money on this crap. Learn to meditate, and do it daily. Drugs are just the short, dangerous way to trip. Real change in consciousness that comes from within takes time and effort to develop.

coryhessel: it works good if u want to have a lucid dream.

Bah. If I want to have a lucid dream, all I gotta do is take my Zoloft too late in the day.

But seriously, lucid dreaming is something you can teach yourself to do. You can also learn to become aware of dreaming while you're in the dream, and manipulate the environment.

Clarification: The sounds I-dozer makes causes the fluids in your ear (the ones that keep you balanced) to vibrate and pulsate out of sync, giving you a dizzy feeling. The absolutely most it can do is make you think you're losing balance. Or, for me and most everybody else out there, piss you off for thinking it would work.

I was just hypnotized for the first time last Friday to relieve stress and help me relax and feel more confident. It has worked like a frikkin miracle. I wasn't even sure I believed in hypnosis and almost laughed at what the hypnotist was saying too me in our session. Now, a week later, I feel better than I have in a decade. It really is amazing. The first session made me feel slightly sedated, that was all, but then they give you a CD of the session to listen to twice a day. I didn't bother doing it the next two days but things got so stressful at work I was at the end of my rope--so I laid down, listened to the CD again and that night I went to sleep and woke up the next morning feeling amazing. I no longer feel the need to drink, don't feel stressed, and generally feel like I can handle whatever life throws at me. It's been a week now.

I really didn't expect this to work but now I think it's the best $200 I ever spent in my life.

Oznog 2008-01-13 08:01:12 PM
They left out the more "hardcore" options.

There's a transcranial electric stimulation (TES), little electrode behind each ear. Sounds scary but there's a lot to it.

The other is transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), magnetic solenoids on the head. Now there was some promising scientific research on that by like real scientists showing it had a real effect- one being possible "alien abduction" type experiences. Since it's just electromagnets it's perceived to be safer (the safety or danger of either procedure is unclear).

Well, in the TMS thing they didn't initially make public what kind of hardware they used, and it was assumed to be some really big specialty electromagnets. However, it came out later that it seems they just used those cheap little suction-cup telephone recording magnetic pickup devices that Radio Shack or whoever used to sell before the age of proper telephone recording splitters, ones that can still be had from surplus catalogs. So there's been some hacking of the idea since then.

Hemi-sync is pretty good for meditation when you can't be somewhere with total quiet.

I have enough time staying upright in my chair without programs farking around with my inner ear.

Sounds like it hurt more than it helped. Do you know how much beer $200 would have gotten you?

czarangelus: Mirror gazing will make a normal, sane person hallucinate like a motherfark if you stare at it for ~5 minutes.

That's way more fun on LSD.

I really am lost for words when it comes to describing iDoser. Perhaps "Humans = stupid" works best.

http://www.erowid.org/ if you decide to ignore the DARE BS they pumped you full of when you were in elementary. Also http://420chan.org/ if you want to ask questions, get dosage suggestions etc.

Freedom of mind. Freedom of body.

Amen to that. As a not normal person, it takes about 30 seconds for me. Sometimes everything goes white or transparent black, and other times my freckles turn into what I can best describe as cheetah markings. It makes it a little harder to put on eyeliner though :-/

valar_morghulis:

What is mirror-gazing, besides what it obviously sounds like?

Well, exactly what it sounds like: standing in front of a mirror and staring at your reflection for more than a minute. What makes it even better is if you turn the lights out. Then it gets freaky.

As someone who often suffers (or enjoys occasionally) serious manic insomnia...

I've been high, I've been drunk, I've had (who knows what) put in my drinks, and I've been hyperthermic to the point of hallucinations (over 107.5) and NOTHING beats trying to change a lightbulb after being awake for 110 hours.

I think I re-invented the light switch or something to make it easier... using a mop handle and some latex. I dont remember, and thats a good thing.
