The correspondent was especially confused by America's lack of interest in boiling it.

Bacon has delicious, delicious flavor. The British hate delicious flavors. Hence...well...pretty much all their food.

1) You don't appear to know that the bacon sarnie is a national tradition

2) You put ready made sauce in your lasagne.

I've often heard that food in England is terrible.

Now that I know that they don't know how to use bacon, I understand completely.

denmeister 2008-01-13 08:10:50 PM
His apparent confusion on the issue of bacon is the reason they still live in the Olde Country, while the braver, brighter came to America.

From Jim's routine:
Bacon bits are like the fairy dust of the culinary world. Don't want that baked potato? Bipity Bopity Bacon. Now its your favorite part of the meal.
And bacon bits on a salad is like smoking while jogging.
Eventually it just becomes a game of find the bacon in the lettuce.

Unless you're making soup, or boiling up beans, I just can't see why. You'll lose all the precious salt and residual grease.

I just might try a bacon sarnie...I've never had ketchup with bacon, and I am now intrigued. Would it be better to have that on plain white bread or on sourdough?

I *do* like the bacon there, very juicy, with the "Canadian Bacon" center and the fatty bit on the outside.

Or just make your own. Not that hard, just time consuming.

And I think it's what heaven must taste like.

A lot of people do, though. Whereas bacon, boiled, in my country ? It's less likely than you think.

ceremony_1968's pic couldn't be more British if it tried - except that there's no HP Sauce.

I used to make bacon, cheese and refried bean burritos as an emergency meal for myself back in college. It was fantastic with beer.

The little map at the end of the article is really a nice touch, isn't it? It should show more bacon locations though.

Somewhere there is a photo of a cat standing on the back of a pig, captioned "Still not enough bacon" (or something like that).

That's how I feel about it.

Are you kidding? When I use bacon in soup, I always pour the delicious grease in the stock. It gives even the most bland soups a wonderful flavor.

Back bacon is glorified ham. Yummy on Hawaiian pizza, pretty much disgusting otherwise. I'll stick with my side bacon, thank you very much.

Oh, yeah. That obviously goes without saying. Same deal with ham hocks in beans or greens.

I also advise saving your bacon grease to make grilled cheese sandwiches in. The high smoke point of the bacon fat lets you get the bread perfectly crispy without burning.
