Well, there's no accounting for taste.

What--no Dogstar?

Oh, and I do agree with the Shatner album's inclusion--was pleasantly surprised by that one.

P.S. They could also have included Jenny Lewis--though I suppose she's known more now for her musical career than her career as a child actress.

Well since you're talking real high quality, we might as well throw Dan Akroyd in there too.

I agree with you, but he's actually a singer/songwriter who became an actor not the other way around.

As soon as I saw Russell Crowe and 30 Odd Foot of Grunts in there, I knew this was a load of crap. Sadly it was the last entry, so there is 2 minutes of my life I am never getting back. Thanks submitter, you dickwad.

thamike: Well since you're talking real high quality, we might as well throw Dan Akroyd in there too.

I thought Return of Bruno^ was pretty good for white-boy soul. Especially Respect Yourself.

Maybe that invalidates my whole post.

I really liked Shatner's Has Been. It's an excellent album.

CtrlAltDelete [TotalFark] 2008-01-13 07:18:33 PM
The addition of Russell Crowe to this list completely invalidates it. He is known for his horrible music.

Although the Jason Schwartzman thing is intriguing. I didn't even know he had a band going. At this press junket party in the Hollywood Hills there was this band playing the balcony and the whole time I'm thinking.. "that guy looks like Jason Schwartzman" and "this actually sounds kind of groovy."

No way of knowing for sure, though.

Yeah, really. The list is for bogus knee-biters.

I think Shatner's reading of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds negates anything good he might have recorded later on.
Bruce Willis can't sing, but plays good blues harp.

I refuse to believe anything called "Dennis Quad and The Sharks" or "30 Odd Foot of Grunts" could be good.

That being said, Master and Commander is the best movie ever.

Jason Schwartzman used to be in Phantom Planet as well, which is easily the biggest band out of all listed.

That song California from The O.C. is Phantom Planet.

turnipbear 2008-01-13 09:11:19 PM
Since Dogstar and Jared Leto were already mentioned I'll throw out Wicked Wisdom.

BlackArt 2008-01-13 09:11:31 PM
Milla had one really great album. Too bad she has not made any more albums. (Peopletree sessions does not quite count.)

simpsonfan: William Shatner???

Yes, I was surprised too. Has Been is an excellent album (his cover of "Common People" sticks out and is in my regular iPod rotation). It was produced by Ben Folds.

That said, the two biggest no-brainers for me were Jared Leto (30 Seconds to Mars) and Kevin Bacon (The Bacon Brothers). And the guy from Total Recall, who I've never heard of, makes the list.

/mmm.... bacon

Hugh Laurie has a pretty decent band.

I really liked Shatner's duet with Rollins on Has Been. But the song about finding his wife dead in the pool was really creepy... and over all, Has Been is no The Transformed Man.

The Glass Dragon: No 30 Seconds to Mars?

I knew this would happen. Jared was in 30 Seconds first and took up acting to help support the band, so they don't qualify for this list.

mekki 2008-01-13 09:45:30 PM
What? No 30 Seconds to Mars? You, sir, just ticked off a whole army of emos. They're going to come after you once they stop cutting themselves for a moment and finish that myspace blog about how life is so miserable.

/just you wait!

I just discovered Coconut Records about two days ago and it's really good stuff.

That said, Tenacious D or it didn't happen.

Poison 2008-01-13 09:52:42 PM
The list should start and stop with The Blues Brothers. Briefcase Full of Blues is still a great album.

I just heard Coconut Records a few days ago - liking it, but loved the Phantom Planet stuff he played on. Very interesting drummer, actually. Loved "The Guest".

No, you fail for liking 30 Seconds to Mars. And the list fails for Juliette Lewis.

ukiah: Jared was in 30 Seconds first and took up acting to help support the band, so they don't qualify for this list.

BZZZZTT! Wrong answer. Jared was in My So Called Life in '94 he didn't join/start the band until '98.

Neesie 2008-01-13 10:35:56 PM
Rick Springfield is one of my favorites, but the acting thing was the side project to his music.

Russell Crowe's band looks like something that plays Springsteen and Skynyrd covers at the county fair.

Indeed. Good stuff. Seen them live several times, including with Jason on drums.

That song California from The O.C. is Phantom Planet.
Let's remember them for their better works.

I was at a concert festival and heard something good from one of the side stages, so i wandered over to check it out. Turns out, it was a band featuring Adam Brody (The OC rears its ugly head again) on drums. Whoever they were, they were catchy.

TwistedTenacity [TotalFark] 2008-01-13 11:12:50 PM
Yes, Ronny Cox was the bad guy in those Paul Verhoven movies, but he was also the guitar half of dueling banjos in Deliverance (don't think it was actually him playing, though.)
