Hey, if I stumbled across a truckful of fish waste, I'd do the same thing.

What, no hero tag?

A fitting symbol for the current administration...

Or, the four eagles of the apocalypse?

In Alaska, Bald Eagles are far from endangered. In fact, they aren't even endangered in the rest of the USA any more.

I just feel sorry for the F&W workers who had to clean up the survivors. Phew.

I once wrote a very short and somewhat twisted story about a bald eagle. I know, a few typos.. and I never quite liked the ending, but most people seem to enjoy it.

/This has nothing to do with the article

Alaskan Bald Eagles are not endangered and as far as I know never have been. They were on the endangered list in the lower 48 but are recovering.

TFA: Some birds became so weak they sank into the fish slime and were crushed.

There's a sentence you don't read every day.

Good call, man.

Eagles may be majestic, but in at least one way, they don't seem to be very smart.

I did want to say, I've you've never seen a live adult bald eagle up close, it it pretty awesome. Being a midwestern city-dweller, I finlly got to see one in a zoo five years ago, and I couldn't stop watching. They are 3-4 feet tall, with a 6-inch-plus beak and a six-foot wingspan-- much larger than you might expect if you never saw one dipicted in scale.

I sat for an hour as this gigantic bird took a bath and cleaned itself about four feet away from me. Thankfully, I took pictures... one of the most enlightening experiences I've had around an animal. Shame he was in a zoo, but he was being well-cared for at least.

damn headline, I thought the eagles went cannibal on each other!

These birdies are everywhere in my neck of the woods (Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, Canada). They love the fact that this area has about a hundred giant chicken farms - lots of tastey foods for them!
Though I see them every day, I'm always awestruck by them. I'll usually pull the car to the side of the road and just watch them. Sometimes they come pretty close!

I honor the "ding" sir.

Hopefully I'll see at least one the next time I come for my yearly apples. I've never actually managed to see a bald eagle in Nova Scotia.

When my ex-husband was taking helicopter lessons in central FL, there was a bald eagle who had nested nearby. One day, it was near the runway of the small commuter airport, holding a fish. My ex took off in the helicopter, and the eagle must have thought that this other "bird" was after his fish, because he started hopping backward, then posturing... Eventually, he flew alongside the helicopter for a minute before heading back to his nest.

/just frikkin' cool

Bald Eagles are like Hollywood actors: They attract the attention of the public at large with good looks and preening while destroying themselves with piggish and revolting behavior.

I think they're cool. I like the way they look. I've never really had any sort of disgust for them - at least, not until I got the chance to see em' up close.

/Alaskan
//Eagles look great when soaring alone. Not so much when congregating around a trash dump like buzzards.

Time helps some species...
Come back and get stronger.
I'm glad one creature's...
Endangered no longer.

I want to fry up an eagle!
Just to see.

You all know, of course, that Benjamin Franklin proposed the wild turkey as our national bird.

/But it became our national drink instead.

Not just ironic due to the American dietary habits but also due to its national appetite for consumption (of everything....)

I very much liked your story "The Eagle."

Have you considered slowing the pace down and writing it as a novel about an everyday Joe who gradually goes insane and kills everyone in the workplace and then takes his own life?

You could have the next American Psycho on your hands.

Heh, if only we had some sort of continuously-updated, online encyclopedia where we could look this information up? :)

The species was on the brink of extirpation in the continental United States (while flourishing in much of Alaska and Canada) late in the 20th century, but now has a stable population and has been officially removed from the U.S. federal government's list of endangered species. The Bald Eagle was officially reclassified from "Endangered" to "Threatened" on July 12, 1995 by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. On July 6, 1999, a proposal was initiated "To Remove the Bald Eagle in the Lower 48 States From the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife." It was delisted on June 28, 2007.

I dunno, I didn't much care for it. I've never been high on drugs in my life, but I suspect that this is the sort of thing I would write while coming down from an LSD trip.

feeding themselves? I don't know- eating themselves sounds like they started eating their own flesh.
