Fark needs about 100 times more SRV like this.

Good linkage, subby.

I'm glad someone got there. Leo is the master, IMO.

This one's awesome too - fast forward to about 6 minutes for "Room At the Top of the Stairs." Outstanding. Link (new window)

Parliament represent.

SRV was truly up for the downstroke.

Decent. Interesting that you can hear some Blind Lemon Jefferson in his turnaround licks.

The GUILD he plays has a terrible tone, and SRV can't keep his ring or whatever is making that noise off the pickguard.

Still, nice share.

real shaman and teleken - thanks for the turn-on. I never listened to any Leo Kottke before...

"The GUILD he plays has a terrible tone"

I suspect it is the crappy television recording to blame.

Vintage Guild acoustics are among the best(along with Gibson and Martin)

Guilds usually have an open warm and woody tone unlike say for example Ovations which in my opinion are too tight and crisp sounding.(Daniel Ash from Bauhaus/Love and Rockets does get a neat Ovation tone via the on board eq though)

Acoustic performances suffer terribly from television broadcast studios.
Live drums and electric bass also sound dreary and lifeless on tv.

arsenio is the crappiest interviewer ever.
Stevie Ray was a Badass. He had that fire.

arsenio still sucks.

Stevie Ray Vaughn has to catch an airplane!
At first I thought it was a tasteless joke, then I remembered SRV was right there, not dead yet.

De nada - IMO Leo's one of the best fingerstyle guys alive.

Recommended from my collection - "6 and 12 String Guitar", recorded in 1969, and "Leo Live", from the mid'90s. He also has a wicked sense of humor.

I remember seeing this when it came out and I flipped out.I believe It was the first season of unplugged. I was already a huge SRV fan and when it was over I was pissed I' didn't tape it. The funny thing was that Joe Satriani was the other guest on that show. He played a farking banjo. It might have seemed like a good idea to him earlier in the week, but man, it downright sucked in comparison to Stevie.

videos like these make me wonder why, after 15 years of playing, i suck so so bad

Well done subby.

radj 2008-01-14 12:58:08 AM
Those unplugged shows are unwatchable for me. Not because I don't think SRV was one of the greats, but because of the jackasses in the audience a-hootin' and a-hollerin' when they should be a-listenin'. It's okay at a rock show, but when someone is playing acoustic or quietly, it's really a-irritatin'.

Hang around with enough monsters, and you'll eventually realize that you're either one of them, or you aren't.

I know it's not cool to dis Jimi, but the piece that Glenechocreek posted is painful to watch. Was he drunk/high?

Eufah Kennidiets: Was he drunk/high?

The story I heard is it's his first time playing a twelve string acoustic, some company wanted to shoot a commercial with him and handed him one. You can see him kinda feelin' his way through the sound. "Don't waste that film, I was scared to death."

Also heard this is the only footage of him with a twelve string.

Oneofthesedays 2008-01-15 02:58:14 PM
Awesome vid even with the audience making too much noise (it's SRV sthu lol). Wish I could've seen him play.

/puts on some SRV
