We're off on the road to Baghdad
This camel is tough on the spine
Where they're goin', why we're goin', how can we be sure
I'll lay you eight to five that we'll meet Dorothy Lamour

Off on the road to Baghdad
Hang on till the end of the line
I hear this country's where they blow up infidels
We'd tell you more but we would have the censor on our tails

We certainly do get around
Like Stop-lossed soldiers we are Baghdad bound

We're off on the road to Baghdad
Well look out, well clear the way, 'cause here we come
Stand by for a concussion
The men kidnap, sleep on nails and set up booby traps
It seems to me there should be easier ways to get a laugh

Off on the road to Baghdad
Hooray! Well blow a horn, everybody duck
Yeah. it's the green zone, come on boys

We may run into villains but we're not afraid to roam
Because we read the story and we end up safe at home (in a sling if we're lucky)
Certainly do get around
Like Stop-lossed soldiers we are Baghdad bound

We certainly do get around
Like a complete set of Shakespeare that you get
in the corner drugstore for a dollar ninety-eight
We're Baghdad bound

Or, like a volume of Omar Khayyam that you buy in the
department store at Christmas time for your cousin Julia
We're Baghdad bound

As long as they are sending over dead people, why not Der Bingle and Dorothy Lamour?

The Onanist

I was going to tell you to go fark yourself, but that was actually pretty good. ;~)

Hope, that's nice. How about results?

Thank God that they've at least got hope, if not electricity.

I just can't wait for this to be over with. I really wish more people would read up on this conflict beyond just the typical hatred points. If we can get the Sunni and Shia in Iraq to communicate and reach compromise, that would possibly be one of the GREATEST achievements since the fall of the Berlin wall. If it doesn't happen, we will have another Israel/Palestine, not to mention another twenty years of smug liberals.

I just wanted to say subby is a magnificent bastard. +1.

When you go into to fight do you imagine the enemy are all liberals? It must be nice to kill two birds with one stone.

Only if they're dirty, stinking, liberal birds, though.

/someone needs to put a stop to this 'conservative' and 'liberal' nonsense
//what are we, the 18th century French?

I would imagine that the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who were killed between the two Gulf wars, the sanctions, and the on-going occupation have pretty much given up hope.

No, I imagined they were my second most hated group of people: religious fundamentalists!

So...The surge brought down the levels of violence by several orders of magnitude.

"But it's a failure! No reconciliation has been had!" the left screams.

The Iraqi government passes the de-Ba'athification laws today.

Massive, massive props to the subby for working Jerry Colonna into a headline.

"There is no doubt in my mind that we will succeed," catapulted President Bush - which should have been quickly followed by, "as long as nobody asks me what the definition of 'success' is."

If a little girl laughs in Iraq but there is an American there to hear it, does she make a sound?

varmitydog 2008-01-13 08:17:52 AM
Will somebody PLEASE get a shepherds hook and drag this lying half-wit off of the world stage? Good Lord, Clinton was an embarrassment but this idiot is beyond belief. Iraq is in ruins as a result of his handiwork, the entire world sees it, and we get this twit up there preening about what a success it will someday be.

373 days left until the end of the neocon nightmare.

Translation: "hope is returning that we can convince the American public of success for yet another election cycle".

I think it's a miscalculation. Iraq certainly isn't as bad as it was 6 months ago, and that's to be lauded. But in no way does that mean that the Iraq venture has been or will in the future be considered to have been a success. Most seem momentarily tired of killing each other, but there is still no actual government.

Its morning again in Iraqistan.

This Sounds Like Hope To Me:

Nine American soldiers were killed yesterday, as American troops began a large offensive in Diyala province. The offensive includes an extensive bombing campaign.

Meanwhile, insurgents linked to al-Qaeda began a bombing campaign of their own. Attacks overall are down in Iraq, but the rise in high-casualty bombing attacks has pushed the casualty rate upward.

Finally, the World Health Organization released a study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, which estimated that 151,000 Iraqis died violently between March 2003 and March 2006 (abstract here, study here).

An earlier study published in Lancet estimated more than 600,000 deaths overall for the period between March 2003 and October 2006. Since violence is by far the leading cause of death in Iraq, the new study is at considerable variance with the earlier study. However, the estimate is more than twice as high as that given by the independent Iraq Body Count, and more than three times as high as the largest estimates given by the Bush administration.

The time period covered in the study did not include the most recent 21 months of the war, in which the level of violence was considerably higher than it was during the first three years.

First they try and re-enact Salo in Abu Gahraib and Gitmo. Now they want to do a remake of Weekend At Bernie's?
