Good. She's training them early. The whole class is responsible for the misbehavior of a few, since if a few misbehave, the teacher must waste classtime to settle the problem and little, therefore, is taught/learned. Maybe the students will start policing their peers now.

The funniest thing about this is that is implies that it would have been fine, as long as she just slapped the ones who misbehaved.

FTA - "prompting the infuriated instructor to line all the students up and slap them in the face, even though most of them were not at fault"

The difference between the U.S. and Japan...

Well that is how most of Japan works.

American idiom: The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Japanese idiom: The nail that sticks up gets hammered down.

Stealthdozer 2008-01-13 12:42:24 AM
Russian idiom: The weak wheel makes all the noise.

Yeah, of all the concepts I want children learning, "You should accept collective guilt as a valid concept." isn't one of them.

One of the ways the U.S. should learn and be more like another country. What ever happened to REAL punishment in schools anyway? I will GUARANTEE that there would not be this pathetic epedemic of kids who need Ritalin and BS drugs for attention blah blah blah. They're just unmannered little shiats that need to be smacked 2 or 3 or 100 times real hard to get a clue. If I didn't get my ass beat from time to time I'd have probably ended up in jail with time...

What school district are you referring to? That's an awesomely low class count 'round these parts.

You don't think she was waisting class time by slapping them all?

prompting the infuriated instructor to line all the students up and slap them in the face, even though most of them were not at fault.

I wonder if he went and slapped each kid indivitually or just walked down the line in one continuous slap.

sombreradoraloca 2008-01-13 12:51:25 AM
I generally assume that this is how Japanese culture operates.

I have a friend over there as a JET and he says that during the teacher meetings the principal will list off students who have been seen breaking school rules away from school. So and so smokes in the park away from school and on a day off, it goes into the announcements and they get punished by their teacher.

Good. I think that you should be able to smack other people's children if they deserve it.

Stealthdozer 2008-01-13 01:10:29 AM
Corporal punishment was in vogue when my brother and I were young. Dad made it clear that any teacher or principal whom laid a hand on us would be knocked out.

simpsonfan 2008-01-13 01:11:39 AM
American kids would have slapped the biatch right back. If the parents didn't also beat the crap out of her.
