i heard that when she said his name she replaced "Luther" with the n-word.

Usually that's a good campaign strategy -- a cute little signal to frightened whiteys that MLK only gets lip service, not policy. Like when Bush ordered the U Mich anti-quotas case -- on MLK's birthday. LINK

T-Servo 2008-01-11 03:37:21 PM
Well, neither was LBJ, although my parents did teach me that the Tooth Fairy was a hard-drinking Texan who swore like a sailor.

Well, he sure as hell wasn't bullet proof, hasn't risen from the grave, and didn't give me a damn cent for my teeth. I'd say its accurate.

What, did she suggest that MLK actually existed?

There's no crying your way out of this one....

Bathroom Gumshoe 2008-01-11 06:05:36 PM

She's cheese. Like that High School Guidance Counselor with subtle, secret uncooked emotional issues who tells any young person who walks into her office (particularly the boys)...

"I'm not here to give you false hopes."

...unless she finds the young'un sufficiently heartbroken and castrated by their school experience to begin with.

She's a Bummer. Wrong for Planet Earth let alone America.

I say "Phooey".

jaedreth 2008-01-11 06:26:03 PM
My god people are STUPID!

It DID take LBJ to pass the law. She says a COMPLETELY LEGIT AND HISTORICALLY ACCURATE statement, and the black community TWIST it into being racist.

No, she didn't use the n word moran.

Man some people get offended over NOTHING. She didn't say anything negative about MLK, she simply stated that a single citizen DOES NOT HAVE the power to pass law.

JEEBUS.

I'm gonna go move to another planet now.

I'm tired of all the stupid farkers on this one. Who wants to come with?

gusto1214 2008-01-11 07:06:51 PM
Wait, wouldn't that make Jesus was a black super-fairy?

Subby is retard. MLK is much better than Superman, Jesus and the Tooth Fairy all in one. (new window)

I wonder how many farkers have never been bothered to watch the damn thing?

Mrs Clinton, trying to make a point about presidential leadership and Mr Obama's constant references to Dr King, the civil rights icon, said: "Dr King's dream began to be realised when President Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It took a president to get it done."

Uh, yeah... That's why he's applying for the job, dumbass!

pvd021 2008-01-11 07:32:13 PM
Superman NO. Black Man Yes. Jesus? No. Savior of His Race and their rights? Yes. Tooth Fairy? No. Bringing a brighter Smile to people's faces? Yes.

Martin Luther King, PLEASE!

67 Beetle 2008-01-11 07:41:57 PM
It's not a completely fatal mistake -- she's got some immunity to this sort of thing.

She probably could have substituted Obama for Tiger in the same dumb comment that announcer on the golf channel recently made and she'd still be able to skate out of it without too much damage.

Fart_Machine 2008-01-11 07:42:32 PM
Martin Luther King wasn't more powerful than a locomotive but he sure could stop a speeding bullet.

Hillary was really taken out of context here.

If you read her comments more fully, it becomes clear that she wasn't comparing Johnson to King...she was comparing Johnson to KENNEDY.

Kennedy, she said, was "hopeful" on the civil rights issue, but it took Johnson's unparalleled ability to wrestle votes out of the Congress to actually get anything done. In other words, Kennedy's pretty speeches may have lifted people's spirits -- but they failed to enact the laws that needed to be enacted.

She's absolutely right.

If Trent Lott had said this, it would be 7/24 on the news. I just went to cnn.com, and it's not even on their front page. Kinda funny how the media decides what is to be the big story.

My second thought: Wow...it's that attitude that can turn otherwise-good people into schills resembling politicians today.

My third thought: Whatever it takes.

LOL. Being England, I thought at first it might have been the Weasley twins getting married.

Let me get this right... Hillary = LBJ? The man who started the great "WAR ON POVERTY!!!"

That's all I need to know. Not like I didn't already.

I'm sure all of her initiatives will prove just as successful.

Que the "Well what about the war on drugs" liberal dodge in 5-4-3..

The CRA passed in a landslide and could have over-ridden a presidential veto. Once the Democratic party came to grips with Southern Democrats and their strangelhold on blocking such legislation it passed easily.

Actually, it had a lot more to do with the 80% support it had among the Republicans than then ~65% it did among the Democrats. The biggest opposition to it was Democratic, yet the left always claims credit for it. Revisionist history at its finest.

That's all fine and dandy, but what is with papers like the NY Times and The Times (UK) not using periods to complete abbreviations such as "Mr." and "Mrs."?

So you're saying that she needs to be Obama's VP, then Obama needs to be assassinated, and she can use the ensuing goodwill to get things done? Maybe it's not racist, but it's still kind of revisionist.

ScubaDude1960 [TotalFark] 2008-01-12 04:33:50 AM
The 1964 Civil Rights Act took away the right of all Americans, regardless of race, creed or color, to freely associate.

/but minority business owners are rarely prosecuted for discrimination, so I guess they don't care.

Jennifer 2008-01-12 11:24:38 AM
Hillary is a bit off the mark on this but I don't see how it could be construed she was denigrating King. You would be hard pressed to find a more worthy advocate for black Americans or the poor in general. The Clintons have repeatedly cited King and Kennedy over the years as their inspiration. So these allegations are spurious and ridiculous.

Where Hillary's assessment went awry was in giving too much credit to Johnson.
While its true Johnson was at the helm when the civil rights agenda made the law books its genesis was with Kennedy's Camelot administration. You see Kennedy himself would have seen the legislation to fruition but he was seriously handicapped. Having been plugged full of holes in Dallas when he was assassinated and all.

Johnson couldn't have done anything but see the Kennedy legacy through. His death left a martyr like movement that made quick adoption inevitable. Johnson knew that he was unable to propel an agenda of his own and didn't seek the party's election. Robert Kennedy was set to take civil rights even further than Johnson when he was cut down.

So it was Kennedy's assassination more than anything else that created the atmosphere to enact civil rights legislation. King in turn had influenced Kennedy. But it was Kennedy who championed the cause at the peril of his own political ambitions.

guesser 2008-01-12 02:58:21 PM
She didn't dis on King, she was saying how King actually put actions to his words. She went on to say that King not only preached, but he took legitimate steps to make change, ie; working on legislation, organizing marches, etc. Where as Obama has yet to do anything but 'preach". I'm voting for Obama, but I think this is an unfair attack on Clinton.

moothemagiccow 2008-01-12 04:33:29 PM
He farking was, though. I mean, shiat, I'm sure Superman and the Tooth Fairy cheated on their spouses regularly. Funny how we always skip over those mysterious 3 years where he was anti-Vietnam.

ReaverZ 2008-01-13 01:57:34 AM
It is all a tactic to get out the Black vote. After seeing Hillary's bump after being picking on for a tear, the same tactic is being used to mobilize the black vote. Get the voters mad and out. Republicans used Gay marriage bans, democrats use "the other guy hates you" to gets their base angry.
