Right.

Okay, I see in TFA that that part is referring to settlers (saying they're not forced to move IN to the settlements). True, they do move voluntarily (some for ideological reasons, many for tax breaks and the chance to live in newish burbs).

On the other hand, most of the schemes to supposedly move the non-settlers (i.e., the Palestinians in the surrounding areas) out involves voluntary movements with payments too.

[1] [2]

Right of return: Palestinian dream
US President George W Bush's comments on Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's Gaza withdrawal plan included tough words on one of the thorniest issues in the Middle East conflict - Palestinian refugees.

The fate of the estimated four million Palestinians living in refugee communities scattered around the Middle East is highly controversial.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fled or were displaced from their homes during the Israeli-Arab wars in 1948 and 1967.

They and their descendents live, many crammed into overcrowded enclaves, mainly in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.

The Palestinians have long asserted that the refugees have a moral and legal right to return to what was once Palestine - including land which is now Israel.

Some of the refugees still retain old deeds and keys to homes now occupied by Israelis.

But for Israel, granting the right of return would be tantamount to surrendering the country's identity.

Frankly, this issue of numerical superiority isnt just a Jewish concern. Back in the 19th, early twentieth centuries, the Arabs were concerned about a Jewish numerical superiority. [3] [4]

Unjust? Why my long headline writing friend, who may indeed possibly be a hobo, there is absolutely nothing unjust about a nation set up specifically for a particular ethnic/religious group. Anyone that tells you otherwise is an anti-Semite.

Party Boy: When you're looking at forced transfers...

I was just referring snarkily (and failing, particularly because I hadn't read TFA first) to the idea that various forms of "transfer" occasionally get discussion among those Israelis (and partisans) who feel that really, Israel needs to expand into all of the originally promised holy lands.

The idea is, the Palestinian Arabs need to leave, however that is made to happen. Often the proponents of these ideas know that being open about them will cost foreign opinion, and discuss how to make things sound more palatable. That's what the subject of this thread reminded me of, so I jumped without looking.

Some "transfer" schemes allow for those who will swear not to harm Israel to stay, but still doesn't make them full citizens - they would lack voting rights. MIND, we're talking about the people in the West Bank/Gaza who are NOT currently Israeli citizens. Israeli Arabs are a whole other group of people, although there are some way out there on the fringe who actually want to drive the current Israeli Arabs out at the same time.

The friendly version is, Israel would offer them money to leave, and they would leave voluntarily. Some say they've done surveys and up to half the people say they'd leave, but notably (1) no one seems to mention what country would supposedly take them in, and (2) they don't seem to mention in the question that it would be Israel paying them off, either, which I suspect might change things.

Either way though, the rhetoric is "well, it's not really 'transfer' or 'cleansing' because it's a voluntary thing." Some do use the term "transfer" though.

And yeah, what I'm talking about is voices on websites, that's where I read (lurking only). Websites with religious people, some in Israel and some in the US (mainly NYC). It's an argued thing, and I don't doubt it's not mainstream political opinion, but the idea is out there.

Overlapping with that general discussion, you can find plenty of boards with documentation and stories of the various hilltop settlements (the ones that Ohlmert has agreed to move and has moved various ones), coverage of them being removed by the army and the heroic resistance to that, etc. There are those who will make the move on the ground, so, they move to some hill or start a new camp. Okay, fine. But then, you get people arguing that once the land is taken for Israel (having Jewish ownership) that it's against religion to then give it up, and they try to persuade other religious people who might not have made the move to the hill, to at least acknowledge that now they can't be removed from the hill.

So it makes me wonder if, some of TFA is referring to this continual move to get more hills (which is a ground-roots, non-official policy thing that the gov't isn't endorsing, but is perhaps not so keen to admit that yes, they do have such factions within the population, who feel this way and are willing to act on it). Hebron, nearby places, the supposed get 8 new settlements for Hanukkah thing (which apparently didn't work out), etc.

The super fringe part of that movement caused a storm a while ago by wearing orange (borrowing from the "Orange Revolution" in Ukraine) stars of David on their clothes and making explicit references to the government forces come to remove them as Nazis. Didn't play too well among the mainstream Israeli public.

As you can imagine, those people are not fond of the Ohlmert government, but I can imagine the Ohlmert government isn't too anxious for those people to get more press, either, which is where it ties (or so I wondered) into the topic of TFA.

It's Israeli land and has been since the time of Abraham. God gave it to them, so no matter what you douche bag liberals think, Israel has every right in existence to SETTLE ON THEIR LAND. The "Palestinians" are really squatters. They didn't "exist" as a "people" until the end of the 1967 Six Day War. These "Palestinians" are really Jordanians, Egyptians, and Syrians. Look it up for yourselves instead of buying into the liberal media.

The squatters are the real interlopers. Period. They are living on the land God gave to the Hebrews 1000s of years ago. In the end, they are going to pay for that, I promise you. They have ZERO claim on the city of Jerusalem, yet they now talk of dividing it for a "Palestinian" state.

Do some research, all the squatters want is no more Israel, not peace with Israel.

Go ahead and comment on my tone or what kind of fanatic I am so you avoid the issues, as usual for you asshat pie-in-the-sky morons that infest much of this site.

Oh, and to everyone who relies to this - go to hell and have a precious evening. Idiots.

dwrash 2008-01-11 05:16:15 PM
I still dont understand why the international community and especially the Arab countries aren't held accountable for the mess Jordan, Syria, Iraq and Egypt started in the first place.

All the displaced 'palistinians' were actually citizens of one of those countries prior to the world and just dumped their citizens on the world to deal with them.

I am not apologizing for all the horrible things Israel has done..

I just dont understand why the world has been willing to dump billions of dollars into the hands of the palistinian politicians and not demand progress for their contributions.

Not one dime of our tax dollars should go to prop up that evil and oppressive government.

Any politician who says a word against Israel is toast in this country. Washington is Israeli-occupied territory.

No wonder the world hates us.
