Ah yes, the "Let's Face It Festival"...

I like Kansas and Herman's Hermits. Their music is a heckuva lot better than what's being touted as music today.

/If I had a lawn, I'd tell you to stay off of it.

I was dragged kicking and screaming to Atlantic City's Steel Pier back in about 1967 where we were subjected to the diving horse and a large dose of Herman's Hermits. I wanted to go see Zappa at the Electric Factory, but noooo, we had to see this crap instead.

Awful, awful stuff.

Don't you first have to be a little bit of a success before becoming washed up? I don't think Elliot should be lumped in with the wash ups.

What hits other than "Silhouettes" did Herman's Hermits have?

Or maybe it's better I don't know?

Hey, don't badmouth the Bangles subby. When did they get reunited? I wonder how do they look now days. I'd probably go just to see them.

"Mrs Brown, you've got a lovely daughter"...I think that's how it goes...

Is that a different song? I'm only 33 and that is the one "Herman's Hermits" song I know off hand. I do know that "Into Something Good" song by Peter Noon, but he was solo on that and I think it was on the soundtrack of Naked Gun or something.

Susannah Hoffs is still preposterously hot.

The most well known are probably these:
"Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter"
"I'm Henry the VIII, I Am"
"I'm Into Something Good"
"Can't You Hear My Heartbeat"

This.

Obligatory Bangles video here (new window).

Not one that you're probably used to.

/Enjoy

Regarding the the Bangles, I saw them open for Mr. Mister (hey, it was the 80s.) There was a guy off behind the side curtain playing a Rick Wakeman-like rack of keyboards. He created most of the textures in the sound. When they did "Walk Like an Egyptian," the blonde Amazon drummer came down to sing. The drums didn't sound any different just sitting there untouched. 'nuff said.

The Hermits' hits, and I mean heavy rotation 770 WABC hits include "Mrs Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter," "There's a Kind of Hush," "Henry the VIIIth,""She's A Must To Avoid," "Silhouettes," "Can't You Hear My Heart Beat," and my favorite "I'm Into Something Good." And that's off the top of my head. I know I missed few. Herman's Hermits were major AM radio players for at least 3 years. They were certainly a radio presence with new material longer than any of the other acts in that list.

First concert I ever attended, 10 years old: summer '65, Herman's Hermits and The Animals double-bill

Let's not forget "No Milk Today"...

Kansas should be on that sucky REO-Styx tour

WhyteRaven74 [TotalFark] 2008-01-10 07:45:35 PM
Kansas, Bangles and Herman's Hermits, do not suck.

As for what hits Herman's Hermits had, I'm Into Something Good, Silhouettes, Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter, I'm Henry VIII I Am and several other top 40 hits, that sadly you don't hear on oldies stations today.

It was Kansas/REO Tour summer of 06 Danville Va.

Entity79 [TotalFark] 2008-01-10 07:54:16 PM
So how was it jmotlus?

Do they still sound good, even though Steve Walsh's voice is shot to crap now?

sonnyboy11 2008-01-10 08:54:38 PM
Herman's Hermits actually have some very good pop songs. Ok, so they don't exactly challenge you musically. But as radio hits go, their stuff holds up well. I especially like There's a Kind of Hush and I'm Into Something Good.

I guess Kansas' dreams are still passing before their eyes. A curiosity.

/and lay off them Bangles, boys.
