A concertmaster? I'd venture to argue that playing first chair violin would rank fairly low among WA Mozart's accomplishments.

Mozart would've almost certainly loved that. Now if only more people who go gaga about Mozart had a sense of humor like Mozart had.

The movie 'Amadeus' was one of the best movies ever to hit the screen, even though it was a tiny bit dramatized. While his requiem is not my favorite song of his, I am in awe of what Mozart accomplished during so little time alive. His work was simply magnificent.

You're confusing Mozart with Chris Farley. Common mistake.

Epsilon: even though it was a tiny bit dramatized.

yeah just a wee bit, like in the movie he only has one kid, in truth he had six, four of whom died young.

And for the fun of it, here's one sheet of the original score for the linked to piece

I forget which piece by Salieri my husband & I were listening to one day. Mid-way through the piece, it changed keys abruptly. Jarring change--no reason for it. We were bewildered for a second & then started cracking up.

/"I'm Salieri--the patron saint of Mediocrity!"
//Mozart's always been a favorite. Try Mozart for the Morning Commute for a fun drive.

hmmm can't recall what that would be, though a key change like that, doesn't surprise me.

It's a definite toss up for me between Mozart's Requiem and Braham's Requiem - two completely different styles, both equally as enjoybale to listen to.

Since we're comparing, I recommend Faure's Requiem.

Barak vEsh 2008-01-10 11:20:36 PM
More about his sense of humor - he wrote his horn concerti for a good friend of his and left many notes in the margins of the one we now call No. I. Things like "wow, this is hard!" and "don't screw up" and "ha! you made a mistake!" and "Finally, we're at the ending".

I performed the Robert Levin version of the Requiem my 2nd year in college. Dies Irae, Rex Tremendae, Confutatis, and Lacrimosa are arguably the finest notes ever put down on paper.
