He should go to the Robinsons'. They've lost nine today.

Kucinich is always the last to withdraw from the Democratic primary. Except for, well, the guy that wins.

Kucinich is a good guy. I'm in line with most of his ideologies.

Shaggy_C 2008-01-10 12:31:28 PM
Some of Kucinich's other proposals, such as ...creating a Department of Peace to replace the Department of Defense, have sometimes been viewed as controversial.

No shiat. What a fricken crackpot.

Well, OK. So we shouldn't REPLACE the Department of Defense (which has a far better name than it used to : Dept. of War, even when NOT at war with anyone).

But I could support a Department of Peace. You know, something like what the Department of State SHOULD be.

I'm amazed how often I hear something along the lines of "I really agree with Kucinich, but c'mon, he's not going to win."
Makes me wonder what the country would be like if people voted for candidates they like, rather than those they feel they're "supposed to" vote for.

Lets say you really like Kucinich, but know he has no chance of winning. You also think that Obama isn't terrible and hate hillary. Who should you vote for in that situation?

The thing is, I like Kucinich. I agree with him on 99% of his platform, and he doesn't speak down to the voting public, like every other candidate out there. I voted for him in the 04 primary and I'll vote for him in this primary.

What I think would be good for the country would be a Kucinich vs. Paul election. Personally, I think Ron Paul is nuttier than squirrel shiat and everything out of his mouth drives me up a damn wall, but he also acts like the voters are intelligent. It would be nice to see two people who are actually passionate about their ideals and believe in the voting public to square off. Maybe that would give American politics the shot in the ass it so desparately needs.

Kucinich is the only Democrat in this race who had the guts to vote against the patriot act, the only one pushing for a universal health care plan that will actually work (Why do you think individual mandates are so rarely used internationally?), and has a far better record of standing up to big business and keeping the country out of war than anyone.

It's pretty depressing that he's only getting 0-2% of the vote, but I'm proud to say I'm among that 0-2%.

So, how big is the platform he's standing on in that pic? I'm betting about a foot.

As for actually voting for him:
1) Iirc, he's against the Afghanistan mission. That would sour a lot of people.
2) FPTP means people hold their nose and vote against the hated front-runner by picking the most likely victor as an alternative. It is simply impractical to vote for your preferred canidate under the asinine FPTP system.

He's running for as many delegates as he can get to bargain his way into a high level cabinet position and to get certain environmental changes passed through. He's a good man, and too smart to be fooled by all this presidential media vortex of stupid.

Mr. Anon:

Lets say you really like Kucinich, but know he has no chance of winning. You also think that Obama isn't terrible and hate hillary. Who should you vote for in that situation?

Kucinich. Always vote for your beliefs. This mentality of "oh I really like candidate x, but he'll never be elected so I won't vote for him" is the type of mentality that keeps alternate political parties from gaining ground. It also encourages people to tolerate mediocre candidates within their own party, and that's something I can't stand.

lhinds 2008-01-10 03:07:26 PM
Candidates like Kucinich are great. Their entertainment value (UFOs) is priceless as the "serious" candidates offer not-going-to-happen platitudes such as universal healthcare. Yet the guy is dead wrong on everything except of course the hot wife.

I'd say vote for who would be the best president. I agree with SnipeBob that the "no chance of winning" mentality is what got us so firmly fixed in this "two party" system. Voting for the lesser of two evils ensures evil will be victorious.

I yet again propose "the negative vote": You may vote for someone or against someone. Problem solved. All those who are worried Hillary would become president can cancel the votes of those who think she'd be wonderful, and the rest of the nation can pick a less divisive, better president.

That is why you want approval voting - put an X next to every candidate you are okay with. No spoiler effect, and you can still vote for the lesser of two evils if you think that is necessary.

/there are other good systems as well, but they tend to get fairly complicated for a process lots of people do very infrequently

* Creating a single-payer system of universal health care that provides full coverage for all Americans by passage of the United States National Health Insurance Act.
* The immediate, phased withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Iraq; replacing them with an international security force.
* Guaranteed quality education for all; including free pre-kindergarten and college for all who want it.
* Immediate withdrawal from the World Trade Organization (WTO) and North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
* Repealing the USA PATRIOT Act.
* Fostering a world of international cooperation.
* Abolishing the death penalty.
* Environmental renewal and clean energy.
* Preventing the privatization of social security.
* Providing full social security benefits at age 65.
* Creating a cabinet-level "Department of Peace"
* Ratifying the ABM Treaty and the Kyoto Protocol.
* Introducing reforms to bring about instant-runoff voting.
* Protecting a woman's right to choose while decreasing the number of abortions performed in the U.S.
* Ending the War on Drugs.
* Legalizing same-sex marriage.
* Creating a balance between workers and corporations.
* Ending the H-1B and L-1 visa Programs
* Restoring rural communities and family farms.
* Strengthening gun control.

He's not my candidate, and I don't agree with him on every position, but I can't see where you can call him dead wrong on every one of those.
