I always thought this was pretty damn close to the perfect rock song. It's dirty and fuzzy, reeks of booze, cigs and sex, revs up the tempo, (almost) everyone gets a quick solo... Rod's done a whole lot of schlock but this was full of win. Thanks in large part to an amazing band. Steve Marriott would have probably done well with it, too.

Dude had a good run of it but needs to ease gently into obscurity, now. And for all the pissing and moaning about Britt Ekland in the other thread -- Rod Stewart could well merit the same vicious slagging.

I don't care how many times this video is posted, the faces rock and this video deserves multiple views.

The Rod Stewart Album and Gasoline Alley; very good
Faces; also very good
everything he did that followed, not so much

Didn't he have a hard time facing his audience in the beginning due to stage fright?

Ronny Wood FTW!

Rod's 'guys' must be paying off Drew something fierce.

/Likes the old Rod but wonders about the number of greens

Notice something in common with all those greens? That would be The Faces. How many have you seen of Rod without them?

Oh, yes, the subject of Rod's massive sell-out is a favorite. But the fact remains - his work with Jeff Beck and with The Faces is some of the hottest rock ever put on vinyl. "Stay With Me" has to be included on any respectable Top Ten list of rock (as opposed to rock and roll).

"Just don't be here in the morning when I wake up."

Rod Stewart was my father's favorite singer.

In hindsight, that should have told us something.

/RIP Dad.
//He also listened to KISS, but that was likely because he was dating a 19 year old on the side in '76

Hmm... if he manages to die this century then maybe Owen Wilson can play him in the mandatory tribute film.

Awesome song. Great band. Too bad this was the "end," (of the band). Just think, its only a few years removed from this "win" to "If Ya Think I'm Sexy."

Egads, man!

/does like "Leave Virgina Alone" though
//how do you divorce Rachel Hunter??

This one was always my favorite back in high school and it rocks better. We drove people nuts because we would play along with the middle section of the tune on the table at the pizza place.

Just snagged a copy of Small Faces: BBC Sessions. Quality entertainment, that.

Best song with Rod Stewart on vocals: Bad 'N' Ruin (new window) from the Faces' Long Player.
