If you saw the BEHIND THE MUSIC special on him, he was just a simple Philly kid playing some good-time music & having a good time doing it.

A rare treat!

Check out the live Operator after Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown

What a distinctive, incredible voice. Great stuff.

Never liked Leroy Brown at all, but Time in a Bottle is enchanting and haunting and I love it.

I always thought Time In A Bottle was his biggest hit.

I didn't either, it's freaky learning of famous people who died young. Especially ones held in such high esteem like Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin.

Scary.

Another one of my father's faves that rubbed off on me as I listened to his stereo playing with legos in his living room.

Listen to "It doesn't have to be that way" and feel your heart rip in half.

I haven't heard that song in years, and can still sing it word for word, and it always leaves me with a smile.

When it came out, way back when, my brother sang it at a talent contest at our Catholic elementary school. They cut the mike when they got to the part about "talking some trash to the secretaries, saying hey now momma come on over here".

He would have been 64 today. RIP Jim Croce. You were one of the best.
