What's wrong with tires? Is Bridgestone considered an evil company now?

It's been proven that tires greatly improve an automobile's gas mileage, therefore helping teh environment.

On another note... the difference between being poor and not being poor is this: If you've ever bought ONE tire for your car, you're poor.

And Willy Nelson supports farm subsidies. So what. If your considered a classic rock legend, and you haven't OD'ed yet, you're a sell-out.

Wow. I knew his was against Corporate Radio (I can see that) but I didn't realize it went as far as sponsorship. I saw him at an outdoor music festival in Atlanta with countless corporate sponsors. Miller Lite for one. I'll drink to that.

My parents still boycott Bridgestone/Firestone because they busted a strike sometime in the late 80s or early 90s.

My mom also to this day will not buy Hormel products. Not that she's missing out or anything, but when I was a kid, she would sometimes cook fried Armour Treet for dinner. That's IMITATION SPAM.

Subby is a DFH that is just looking for something to biatch about.

Of course it has sponsors, it's the Super Bowl. So what?

At least the show is something good and not some top 40 wankers.

You baby farkers wont know this, but at one time he refused to let his record company charge the list price of $9.99 for his new record. At that time the standard price for a new record was $8.99.

My namesake's thoughts on the matter:

"No. I'm not sponsored by Bridgestone. My deal is with the NFL. The halftime show is always presented by a sponsor. If I play on The Tonight Show, it's presented by sponsors. Truthfully, every venue in America has some sort of corporate sponsor above the door or on the wall. It's not a deal that I made, you know? Don't worry, I haven't gone corporate."

I'm 22. It was actually 8.98, which he threatened to name the album. It's now known as "Hard Promises". I guess it doesn't hurt that he's my favorite artist...I have his movie, book...all his albums...seen him 3 times...etc...etc.

I also don't see this as any sort of irony. I mean, the article says "...of MUSIC EVENTS"...last time I checked that's not what the Superbowl is...not to mention I think his whole problem is more of a limitedness of choice--fewer voices are being heard and are available. It doesn't really fit here.

His fans are going to say don't come around here no more. Tom's going to say you don't know how it feels.

HAHAHA Fantastic.

Gotta say, Last DJ was one of the most hypocritical, sanctimonious, and downright preachy albums I've ever listened to.

Tom: you're no different than any other talented artist out there. Stop pretending to be.

/Why does every Fark music thread only focus on bands that have been around longer than CDs?

Now That's What I Call a Taco!: /Why does every Fark music thread only focus on bands that have been around longer than CDs?

Because bands that haven't been around for 25 years get hit with endless "who?" comments from the old fogies.

From the Tom Petty booking agent website:

To book Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers or to get information about booking Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers for a corporate event, private performance, wedding or meeting please submit this form.

Yeah, I'll bet Tom Petty plays a lot of weddings.

I'll go you one better - if you've ever gone to the junkyard (salvage yard, for you higher-bred Farkers) to look for a tire for your car, you might be poor.

/Been there, done that (back in mid-70's)

No, it's because the trendy bands aren't around long enough to make a Fark music thread more than once or twice.

Here's (new window) a link to a piece my brother wrote on Tom Petty and the seemingly dichotomic relationship between his words and actions.

He's still one of the best, I just wish he hadn't set the bar so high for himself. The more idealistic your beliefs, the easier it is to sell-out.

Good christ. I thought my folks were the only people who bought that junk.
