"I'm so used to saying no."

Well to her credit, she was a wife...

"I'm so used to saying no."

She can SAY whatever she wants, just please, for the love of God, don't SING it...

Hell no, why should she let anyone else make any money off John's name - that's her job as the professional widow!

My inner Beatles nerd chuckled when she said she spent "Yesterday" on the bus.

Yeah, I'm with you on that one. I like Plastic Ono Band, and have heard her do some pretty rocking stuff. As for the caterwauling, well...I do enjoy it at times, depending on my mood and the song.

I don't stick up for Yoko's art because art does not require defending.

It should be noted that besides a passionate sector of teenage society, much of white America hated the Beatles, and indeed rock n' roll in general. It was generally a nation of crew-cut types terrified that the Negroes were going to fark their women and certain that the Communists were lurking around every corner.

All of which has been largely downplayed in the cultural history. Nobody likes to admit how square or racist this country was.

I say "was" because I HAVE A DREAM!

/had too much to dream

I'll say the same. While I have reservations about a lot of her "singing," she has been demonized unfairly for decades despite doing a lot of good work for a multitude of causes. Like the one in the article, for example. This sounds like a really cool idea, and I would've loved to have that bus visit my school as a kid. Hell, I'd love it now.

I went to a local art installation about shoes (wife's idea to go, of course) and it was the same old boring crap.

Until I got to a pair of tiny shoes, designed to represent the extraordinarily cruel tradition of binding and deformation (even fracturing) of women's feet in Asian culture to make them small and "attractive."

The shoes were bloody and had an angry, repulsive, heinous quality to them. Not just a slap-dash application of blood to them, but it was clear that they'd been considered, created, and were there to make a statement about how awful that experience was. It was a pair of shoes that encapsulated a lot of history and emotion. I was impressed, even before I knew it was the Beatles-wrecker.

Now, I hate Yoko's "singing" and her influence on John wasn't always the best. But those shoes were damned moving.

So if a 75 (75!) year old woman wants to spend a little of her celebrity currency on a moving studio for kids, I say it's OK.

Nestea Plunge, darkhorse23 - name one thing she's done since Dec 8 1980 to make money for herself off of John's name.

Seriously.

I don't love her, but as has been pointed out - she does a helluva lot of charity, in John's name, and fights Paul over his petty attempts to reduce John's credit on their songs. Beyond that, Yoko does her own art under her own name, and I've never seen her make a single $ (or £) off her late husband's good name.

Richiedude 2008-01-09 04:33:11 PM

How much does it cost to live in the Dakota since 1980?

I never blamed Yoko for ruining the Beatles - it was just time for them to move on.

I DO blame her for being a talentless suckfest of uselessness. May Pang was hotter.

Spending her husband's money is different from exploiting his name to make more money.

You fail.

Yoko killed John.

//thats my theory and I'm sticking to it

And Paul was killed by John years ago.

I agree with both of you. Yoko's great IMO, and it's clear that John loved her.

Also, why does TFA call her John's "ex-wife"?
