white summer is what the Yardbirds version is called. Didn't they rename it Black Mountain Side when Page played it with Zep?
still prefer the Yardbirds version.

I prefer "Dirty Black Summer" by Danzig.

Yeah, it's "Black Mountain Side" on the first album.

Happy Birthday, sloppy Dan-O playin' guy...

I recall it being a two part title in some situations white summer/black mountain side. Could be wrong, though it isn't likely.

I think they also combined both songs acoustic on their first boxed set.

He doesn't look a day over 85.

Lotsa noodling goin on. Put him in the studio with the boys however and you get some great songs.

Google "Ten Years Gone LoTR" on myspace and you'll see and hear sumn grand...

Page, shmage. It's Dick Nixon's birthday, dammit!

I kid, I kid! Here's a special treat: The Yardbirds performing Dazed and Confused. And yes, he does play with a bow. (pops)

The Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin, The Firm, Coverdale Page, not a bad body of work.

this is actually very clean and tight compared to a lot of other instances of this song that i've heard him play.

I always thought White Summer was the first slow part melody, and becomes Black Mountain Side the instant Bonzo comes in, then it reverts back to White Summmer again, later.

And Joan Baez's birthday, and mine. There, I think that's everybody.

Here's a more concise, less sloppy acoustic version:

Enjoy. :)

This is probably the definitive version of this song. It's not sloppy at all. It's live.

No...

Black Mountain Side (new window)

White Summer was a track he did with the Yardbirds, I believe. Black Mountain Side was on Zep's first album. They're both fairly similar musically and in the same key/guitar tuning, so when he played live he did a medley of the two.

And I love LZ and hate to jump on the "Jimmy Page stole music" thing...but Black Mountain Side is a pretty blatant ripoff of Bert Jansch's arrangement of Black Waterside (new window).

And mine too!

You forgot Dave Mathews and Bob Denver (Gilligan)

So, who did Page steal THIS from?

Plagiarism, pedophilia, Satanism...I dunno about this guy.

browntimmy 2008-01-10 06:23:10 AM
The only reason I checked this thread was to see if Dynamite Monkey mentioned Zeppelin's plagiarism again. If we had a day with fifty Led Zeppelin links in a row on Fark, I guarantee he would make the same comment in every single one of those threads.

T.rex 2008-01-10 12:20:11 PM
thanks ridcullylives.

i'll say one thing about Jimmy Page stealing stuff... to me, it was always more of an homage to the original artists. If you don't buy that, at least i can say that without Jimmy Page, i never would have discovered other artists like Willie Dixon or perhaps Robert Johnson. (hey, Clapton and the Rolling Stones stole too).
