You can never play that song too slowly can you? Oh, wait yes you can. Just like he does here. I didn't last past the first 20 seconds.

rezin8 2008-01-07 12:27:21 PM
I can one NOT know the lyrics to that song?

rezin8 2008-01-07 12:32:43 PM
HOW can one... not "I can one"...

Pappas 2008-01-07 01:07:33 PM
I'm surprised that he didn't know all the words.

I'm not surprised that no one in the audience did.

Actually, that was pretty entertaining.

He was having a fun time, and that is part of what music is all about.

I too enjoyed the guitar solo. Do be bwwweee do de de!

Nailed it.

What a mockery. I love it :)

Ilmarinen 2008-01-07 03:31:11 PM
Heh, how silly. I actually prefer Dave Grohl's version of Tiny Dancer^.

devioustrevor 2008-01-07 04:07:03 PM
Crap, I got the pictures of what Led Zeppelin's tour plane looks like, it's just they're on a CD-R and I don't know where it is offhand. I'll look.

GonzoNihilist 2008-01-07 04:34:04 PM
Does anyone else see Dave Grohl as the Donald Trump of pop-rock?

Thosw 2008-01-07 05:03:29 PM
I know this is a repeat, but this is the pinprick in the pretentiousness that is Stairway to Heaven.

/bitter because upstairs neighbor used to keep me up on weeknights playing this at full volume while farking his girlfriend.

Thats hilarious.

How he was playing it at the intro I was hoping that it was a joke, he was doing it so badly.

BigBaldRon 2008-01-07 06:40:23 PM
Has anybody heard the Dave Grohl interview where he's ripping on Scott Stapp?

Singing "Well I just HEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDUHHHHHHHH, the news to-dAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYUHHHH"

Comedy gold.

emotionalwench 2008-01-07 06:43:52 PM
Haha, that made me laugh a lot. I totally think that Dave really does know all the words, he was just poking fun at people who take themselves SO seriously when they cover that song. I heart you, Dave.

/although I'm still kinda sad he didn't sing the entire "if there's a bustle in your hedgerow" part -- that's my favorite part of the song

T.rex 2008-01-07 06:47:02 PM
i love Zeppelin. Not familiar with this 'Stairway' song, but it sounds neat.

Does anyone else think the beginning of the Foo Fighters new song "the pretender" sounds a lot like the beginning of Stairway to Heaven?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought they sounded similar. Grohl is a massive Zep fan, tattoos and all. His Stairway is pretty good. He nailed most of the solo.

I laughed, a lot. there is a part at the beginning where he hits some note and does this nod like, "oh yeah, I'm awesome". classic.

made me laugh.

I wonder if Taylor Hawkins is also a better guitarist than Grohl?.?.?.

My favorite version of Stairway was Zappa's on the '88 tour. His horn section played the guitar solo and it sounded incredible.

/hoping Grohl doesn't play with "Zeppelin" on tour
//really hoping the Zep remnants don't do a tour at all

he should have to audition to play with Zep.

Yup, except I saw him here in Vermont and it sounded better live.

That was farking hilarious. Anybody who can't see that this was done as a joke should really look into not taking themselves so seriously.

If i recall correctly, he did this on the Daily Show, so take it for what its worth. I think it was more attempted as a comedy bit than an actual musical performance.

urch 2008-01-08 02:13:04 PM
he's perilously close to crossing from rocking and cool to "funny, clever" and totally lame (a la David Lee Roth - see "Panama" v. "Just a Gigolo."

DG needs to be loved by all - I call this a character flaw.

Ha! I forgot that was supposed to be the part of the song that contained the "Satanic message."

Hormel Chavez 2008-01-08 06:49:06 PM
DG was just having fun with the song. Thats the type of personality he has. I think he could have easily been a stand up comic or comedic actor. Hes a funny guy. Not trying to draw attention to himself, just trying to make people laugh. Once saw a couple of guys doing the Gilligans Island lyrics to Stairway and it fit perfectly. One of the funniest things i ever heard.
