I though most people though bin Laden was in Pakistan?

Either way, it's been closer to 7 years since we invaded Afghanistan.

Can't be true. Afghanistan is a failing quagmire because of American imperialism.

ambercat 2008-01-07 06:08:18 AM
If by people you mean midgets then I could see where downtown dave is going.

However I doubt this is the case because if there were hordes of midgets riding goats in a race across the border I'm assuming that someone, somewhere, would have already found a way to film it, make money off it and include it in porn.

Till then I'll just assume they're goat EATERS.

DontBeStupid 2008-01-07 06:11:22 AM
I wonder if they even know they crossed a border or care?

Sounds like it is part of an on-going Shia/Sunni conflict and has nothing to do with other world events.

Still seeing the area through artificial imperialist borders does nobody any good. Everyone ignores the imminentnooclear threat of Pakistan and India going toe to toe, because they're playing ball with the G8. Lucky they've been enacting a formalised conflict for decades in Kashmir, and have got steady enough heads to avoid nuking each other. For now, at least.

Still, I thought the Muhajadeen were our friends?

It's amazing that the two of you haven't considered the possibility that
Afghanistan is in turmoil and that it is a failing quagmire but, with all
of it's faults, it may be better that Pakistan may become (or is) now.

Sometimes things are a bit more complicated than you may percieve if you gain
all of your incite from AM Talk Radio "personalities" and animated TV shows.

wut is tribal areaz lolol

I'm loving the media coverage which is madly pointing the finger at Mustache. Assassinating Bhutto was the worst political move he could have possibly made, and he's smart enough (and pragmatic enough) to know it.

No wonder after thousands of years of civilization these people are still riding goats.

FTFA: "Hundreds of families, comprising some 6,000 mainly women and children, have been crossing the border."

Yeah, because what the civilized world really need, is a few more kids aged 8-12, equipped with an AK-47.

2/10, would ignore as senseless bullshiat again.

You forgot the part where you proudly wear a Chinese-made flag pin and put a Chinese-made "Support The Troops" ribbon on your car because that makes you a Manly Man.

You do realize that the Tribal Regions of Pakistan are a problem because we let the Taleban and Al Qaeda escape to them from Afghanistan because instead of using actual American soldiers to do the fighting, we instead asked Afghanis to do it for us.

Yes, Bush is "teh fail"

yeah, err, nil for effort, and nil for content.

just to give you a helping hand - firstly, musharraf hasn't shown himself to be a particularly smart politician. he has made many, many fundamental mistakes, which have seen his popularity descend massively and which have basically provoked the current crisis. secondly, it certainly was not the worst political move he could make. musharraf didn't want bhutto back, but agreed to have her back so long as she was a good girl and did what she was told. almost immediately, it became clear that that was not going to be the case and she was going to go after the fundies who musharraf needed as part of his support base

if you need any more help, just let me know

I believe what his point is is that most of you people are so invested in hating bush and identifying yourself as a "TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT(tm)" that you don't contribute anything beneficial to the discussion and just trot out your anger, whether it be justified or not.

On a side note, if we can't get the Afghanis to believe in our quest in THEIR country get them to help us, we have lost no matter how matter how superior our troops may be. People don't appreciate being told they are inferior.

Meh, the term "middle east" brings to mind that entire stretch of country between Arabia and the Indian border. It's become more of an anthropological term than a geographic one. It can be construed as accurate since you do know immediately who it refers to.

here's one of many
Link(pops)

"Al-Qaeda's ideology, often referred to as "jihadism," is marked by a willingness to kill "apostate" -and Shiite-Muslims and an emphasis on jihad. Although "jihadism" is at odds with nearly all Islamic religious thought, it has its roots in the work of two modern Sunni Islamic thinkers: Mohammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab and Sayyid Qutb"

Al-Qaeda is Sunni. They kill Shia.

Do you people actually believe that the people in these countries care that much about individual Americans as to shoot you on sight? No, the majority of these people are simply sick of being pushed around by their governments just like you would be.

Most Arabic people I saw when I visited over there were just your everyday citizen going to work, trying to make a living. Sure they have feelings about the United States, and they have feelings about the politics in their respective nations, but they aren't nearly as 'bloodthirsty' as the media wishes they could portray them.

Unfortunately showing people going about their day to day business, hoping their leaders don't make a dumb move so they can continue living without worrying about being bombed the next day doesn't get the best ratings. You can only show the crazy fundamentalists burning flags and beating dead bodies in the streets. Of course this only perpetuates the myth of "everyone" in the Middle East wanting to drink down your precious American blood.

Worked in another thread, so...

You might be from Afghanistan or Pakistan if:

...You refine heroin for a living, but you have a moral objection to beer.

...You own a $300 machine gun and $5,000 rocket launcher, but you can't afford shoes.

...You have more wives than teeth.

...You think vests come in two styles: bullet-proof and suicide.

...You've ever opened a can of falafel with a mortar round.

...You used a Stinger missile given to you by George Bush Sr. to shoot at a helicopter sent by George Bush Jr.

...You've ever had your camel repossessed.

...You can't think of anyone you HAVEN'T declared Jihad against.

...You consider television dangerous, but routinely carry ammunition in your robe.

...You've ever been asked, "Does this burka make my ass look fat?"

...You think "The Kite Runner" is the funniest book you ever read.

...You've felt the urge to rub one out after seeing a woman's exposed ankle.

...You were amazed to discover that cell phones have uses other than setting off roadside bombs.

...You've ever uttered the phrase, "I love what you've done with your cave."

...You wipe your ass with your bare left hand, but consider bacon "unclean."

I have a suggestion: stop watching the "History" channel, throw out the Time/Life "Rommel: the Desert Rat" books and understand what and who created Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich. Somebody payed for all those tanks, planes and weapons. Do you imagine it was the German people alone?

One minute, people are paying 100,000,000 Deutsche Marks for a loaf of bread, the next they are marching in the best equipped and organized army of its day.

How did the German economy manage such a miracle? Who funded the Nazi party, who traded with Nazi industrialists and loaned them money? I am asking you seriously.

These questions should concern you. Life is not always black and white, cops and robbers.

Many people don't seem to care about these details, preferring to dwell in the simple, Reader's Digest account of World War II. Why bother looking in to the issue when Tom Hanks will tell you all you need to know in two hours.

The goings-on in Pakistan and Afghanistan couldn't be less relevant to the REAL issues facing America. Loss of manufacturing jobs, the devaluing dollar and inflation, the trade defecit, etc.

Maybe our next "leader" won't be so hell-bent on winning a culture war for Jesus and we'll get back on track selling our cool stuff to salivating neanderthals worldwide.
