It seems like the schism between social conservatives and fiscal conservatives may finally be coming to the surface. If you ever listen to Rush, it seems fairly obvious (to me at least) that all he really cares about is war and taxes. He seems to pretend to care about the social issues so that the two factions can gang up and win elections. Maybe social conservatives are on to this. Huckabee doesn't seem to be pandering to the Rush types.

Now we will have none of these Christofacist values shoved on us! How dare you say its important to feed the hungry, cloth the naked, and house the poor; that is damn hippie talk. Everybody knows that Jeebus aint said none of that. The Bible clearly says to hate the gays, kill the Muslims, cut taxes, and save unborn babies. All this other crap is just additions made by hippies in the 60's to encoruage people to e stoned and lazy.

But the current administration already focuses on the lower-income Americans...granted, it is in the same way Peter North focuses on the bridge of the nose, but it is a start.

Huckabee is smart to alienate the Liberal Bashing Industry. Lots of conservatives are disgusted with it--they are tired of hate and divisiveness, and they recognize that the LBI has consistently backed politicians who are responsible for bad, bad policy.

Here is an interesting read, more or less on the same subject:
Professor Cites Bible in Faulting Tax Policies
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/25/business/25tax.html
"At a time when some voters are asking how the religious views of candidates will shape their policies, a professor's discovery of how little tax the biggest landowners in her state paid to finance the government has prompted some other legal scholars to scour religious texts to explore the moral basis of tax and spending policies."

Honestly, Huckabee is the only Republican I like.

He spoke at the Music Educators National Conference in April 2006 in Salt Lake City. He's very passionate about education, and especially Music education in our schools. He has a band called "Capitol Offense." Come on! That's pretty cool, even for an evangelist.

I don't agree with all his ideas, but he's a very give-and-take kind-of guy.

Huckabee is a very smart politician.

He knows where the votes are and where the fault lines in the GOP lay. It looks very like he, in his quest for the nomination, will further split the fractures in the GOP coalition that were already widened by the incompetent and shallow politically-driven misrule by the Bush Administration.

Which is interesting, because populist evangelical politicians used to be the domain of the Democratic party. They religious vote drifted over to the GOP when the GOP made an uneasy peace with the religious voters to make a bid for electoral advantage.

They subverted their economic populism to attempt to gain traction on social issues, like abortion. But decades of lip service has worn thin.

Meh...I just enjoy watching the Repubs implode.

One of my favorite comments after Iowa was when one GOP analyst was asked about the Dems V. Repubs turnout and he replied "it is shaping up to be a very dark Novemember".

So I'm not sure why you would bring international poltitical parties into the discussion.

I'm familiar with the Democratic Party. Is that a third party which tries to get votes based on confusing people with the Democratic Party?

Or are just unaware that you cannot modify a noun with a noun?

Republicans don't stand for a Republic and Democrats don't stand for Democracy. It's all a bunch of propaganda - basically, it is the equivalent of having the 'Freedom' party against the 'Liberty' party in a two-party system.

The problem is that Republican is both an adjective and a proper name. So it doesn't change to become 'Republic' Party because that's not what it stands for. Really they should be the 'Religion and Selfishness Party' and I will call them that.

I tried to use 'Democrat Party' because those from that side stand for themselves - the Democrats - and that ideology has nothing to do with Democracy. But, because this upsets a lot of people, I will from this point on call it the 'Excessive Government Party'.

It is odd you would say that. How many parties are named after individuals? I would call it 'Bob's Party'

I could see Jeffersonian Party or Jacksonian Party if named after a historical figure. Still doesn't work to support your contention.

moops: He's just being a trolling douchebag. He's parroting Sean Hannity's talking point that the Democratic Party must be called the "Democrat Party".

Of course I realize this. But his support was so dishonestly lame, it needed a little taking down.
