Is it a design flaw to admit idiots?

ZAZ [TotalFark] 2008-01-06 10:01:01 AM
A woman in Massachusetts bought a house next to a golf course and successfully sued to shut down a hole after golf balls landed on her property. The court was not impressed by the observation than holes are packaged in multiples of nine and taking one away pretty much wrecks the course.

Guelph35 2008-01-06 10:07:11 AM
Yeah, the flaw is they let a woman on the course in the first place.

Wanebo [TotalFark] 2008-01-06 10:19:15 AM
The suit did not detail the extent of Timpanaro's injuries but said that she continues to suffer.

..apparently because of the design flaw in her brain.

ZAZ: A woman in Massachusetts bought a house next to a golf course and successfully sued to shut down a hole after golf balls landed on her property. The court was not impressed by the observation than holes are packaged in multiples of nine and taking one away pretty much wrecks the course.

Not her problem. They're free to use their property until it encroaches on hers.

Snarfangel [TotalFark] 2008-01-06 10:29:06 AM
People should yell something to let people know they are hitting the ball. Something like "TIMBER!" or "OUCH!"

/What do the Japanese use? The number 4 (shi) looks like "DEATH!" which would be cool to yell when hitting a ball at a high velocity.
//okay, so "four" and "fore" are probably not homonyms ins other languages.

I always thought that houses next to golf courses kind of assumed that "risk"? Otherwise, given this, there wouldn't be any houses right next to golf courses.

You probably meant 'sounds' like 'death'.

As in the Chinese character for 4, from which the Japanese also use for numerals.

Typically, if you buy property facing a golf course, you had to sign a neighborhood covenant or some document basically giving golfers rights and taking away some rights to your property when it involves golf. These vary but can mean things like you can't put up a fence or you can't prohibit golfers from traipsing onto your yard to play through.

If there wasn't a document like this, the golf course isn't very smart, because usually property facing a golf course was developed about the same time by the same people as the course, and these things are just built in.

Nothing that says you can't run out and steal golf balls before the guy that hit the errant shot sees you. But thats usually about it.

gimmedaloot 2008-01-06 11:11:57 AM
They should shut this place down. It's a death trap! Also, golfers should be required by law to wear helmets and light body armor, as to protect themselves from renegade, guerrilla golfers who don't know any better

I'd watch that, and plus it has a nice HHGTTG ring to it.

Add in 100 or so suicide bombing monkeys on pcp and air-lifted wolverines that parachute down and I think we've got a new show on FOX.

Just give the lawyers time - it won't be long. Soon after the protective gear is deemed mandatory, it will be determined that golf is too dangerous and outlawed.

I'm not sure who I dislike more gold courses and golfers or ambulance chasing attorneys and their dip-shiat clients. I would support a Constitutional Amendment that would designate all golf courses as prairie dog and rattle conservation sites. I would also like to see a limited bow and black powder hunting season with the game being attorneys that advertise on TV.

If the developers are smart they get deed covenants that run with the land and give golf courses what amount to limited "easements." If not, it's no different from any other adjoining parcels of land, where the free use and possession of each ends at the boundary line.

Solution: No more spectators on golf courses unless they are wearing a full body protective gear.

OR, have people play with nerf-style golf balls.

Huh...kinda sounds more like a Monty Python sketch about 5 seconds before the General steps in to denounce the sketch as being "Far too silly."

Still...it'd be a lot of fun to watch it get to that point, wouldn't it?

I've seen badly designed golf courses... even played on one.

Every time I went I heard 'HEADS UP!' or "WATCH OUT!" or "INCOMING!".

People always so close to being hit. Including myself.

The golf course needs to ban her, her boyfriend, and the lawyer that filed suit from the course. If they step foot on the property, have the arrested.

That won't help you win the lawsuit, but it'll piss off the guy that likes to play golf, and it'll keep them from showing up and doing something else stupid to use as an excuse for another lawsuit.

Until the golfers purposely aimed at the house or the resident kitty, it wasn't a problem. They didn't realize, though, that the upper windows had enough of a landing outside them to provide an excellent paintball-sniping perch ...

We also used the course to play croquet. I mean, all that nicely maintained grass demanded to be played on constantly ... ;)

Owl's Creek, located between Oceana Naval Air Station and the Oceanfront, is a semi-private course nicknamed "The Little Monster," according to its Web site.

I know another Little Monster and her name starts with C and ends with rystal Timpanaro

FTA; when a golfer at the 17th hole shanked a drive that hit her, the lawsuit said.

I personally commend the alleged golfer for hitting a ho in one.
He should be awarded, not sued.

She's not alleging that any golf course has a design flaw. She's alleging that this particular golf course has a define flaw in that two of its holes are placed too close together.

What if they are?

What if most golf courses are desinged to minimize the likelyhood of golf ball injuries by the spacing of the holes, and you just don't know that because you've never designed a golf course?

Whatver. Don't let "facts" stop your brainless "ZOMG FRIVOLOUS LAWSUITS VOTE BUSH!1111111eleventyone!!!!" thread.

Blind tee shots are interesting until such a time as someone gets hit. There are a few holes like that on some of my favorite NYC courses. Everyone knows it though, and people are usually very careful.

People who hate golf are homos and terrorists. :)

FTA:
...while watching her boyfriend play golf

Well thats as far as I needed to read. People who are on the course who are not playing are like bad shot magnets. I don't know why this is true, but after 25 years playing it proves itself time and time again for me.

Correct, sir.

I've only designed golf courses online, but when I worked at a course we had a tee box that was within 20 or so feet of the previous green. Management put up a fence next to the tee box, which cut off any errant shots heading for people teeing off. A similar precaution would have prevented this case.

I set up a bachelor party at that golf course (Owl's Creek) a few summers ago. One of the more blitzed golfers in our party lobbed one over the trees and into a guy's windshield... he was driving at the time. He came over to us after we finished and demanded to know who was responsible. I felt bad for him but no one would admit to it. He went to the club house and no doubt raised hell, but we didn't stick around to find out.

Yeah, that golf course probably does have some design flaws...

I don't care if the course is poorly designed. It's a golf course. Hard little pellets are flying around at 90 mph and people occasionally get hit by them. Live with it or don't go to golf courses.

Too easy. Painting a red cross on the side of your car is the equivalent of setting up a feeder for deer. Not sporting.

I don't see frivolous lawsuits as a partisan issue. Republicans sometimes give lip service to it but that's likely to court their corporate overlords. I doubt they have a moral conviction to not sue people.
