they should rectify the situation and break both of his legs.

Ah, the old "The casino didn't stop me from gambling" defense. I somehow doubt it'll work.

Send him to Sheriff Joe, see what happens when he has to wear pink underwear, sleep in a tent and be part of a chain gang.

Prisoners have little else to do besides file lawsuits. Doesn't mean it'll succeed or even be accepted.

This is the USA! Man we should ship 'im to Sheriff Joe. Better yet, just chop off his feet, relieve him of his fingernails, give him a taste of 100,000 volts, and hang him from the border fence. Hells yea! I need a Budweiser, now..

I've always thought they should build a huge maximum security prison up in Alaska - somewhere between Fairbanks and Barrow. If some numbnuts tried to escape then either the guards or the "majestic countryside" would.

Hmmm, I'm gonna sue the dude for the minute of my day he just stole from me.

/if I'm ever convicted of anything, I'd like to be incarcerated there please.

jails should be escape-proof... i mean most prisoners show no signs of rehabilitation and just sit around thinking about ways to escape. if it's easy, they go for it, and give no regard to the fact that it's against the law. should they be compensated if they hurt themselves in the process? no. should more jail time be tacked on when they're recaptured? yes.

it sounds like this guy is making two arguments, one that he was mistreated, and two that it was too easy to escape. both of these seem to be defenses that would get him reduced additional jail time. i think the best he can hope for is transfer to a more secure facility, and 15 minutes of fame.

/chop off his legs

HAHA! Everyone knows inmates don't have rights.

Why not just make a rule that if you try to escape all the other prisoners get 30 days of solitary confinement. Then when he is captured let his "buddies" take care of the punishment.

Sounds about as smart as documenting your shoplifting experiences at a store, and then crying that they didn't stop you before once you're finally caught.

/Off to Wal-Mart to get rich

True for America, not true for Mexico.

Don't encourage Sheriff Joe.

You know the sad thing is that he's actually going to be helping the people in pueblo county. He warned them that it was easy to escape, and that he was being abused. The most rational thing to do when you are being abused is to try to escape. I think the guy is trying to protect himself and explain why he was escaping. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Angola, Louisiana, never had a successful escape.

This is why they should build prisons on old oil drilling platforms out in the middle of the ocean.

Wasn't he the one who needed a team of attorneys to come to his office and explain to him why stopping every single car on the highway to search for drugs was illegal?

Works both ways. Ex. A. The jail clearly wasn't to built or maintained to code, so it was operating illegally. ( FTA, cells easy to open, ceiling tiles loose, unsafe perimeter easily causing injury ).

Ex. B. Tbe personnel were allegedly abusive, violating his right to standardized punishment; given Exhibit A casts reasonable doubt upon the integrity of the department, the abuse allegation is more plausible.

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if they lured him out to have a good `ol boy manhunt. Fire the sherrif for incompetence and , oh, wait, looks like he already decided to find other employment... must have been a dickwad and realized his jigg was up.

"Your honor, you see, they just didn't make it clear to me that escaping from prison was something that I shouldn't be trying to do. And even if they did, they didn't make it hard enough for me when I did. Therefore, they owe me money in the amount of $xxx,xxx,xxx.00"

I had something similar to this happen at a hospital I was working at. A prisoner was being held on the third floor, because he was resisting arrest and ended up needing hospital care.

The guard as posted outside his door, rather than inside the room, so the guard couldn't see what the prisoner was up to. The prisoner realized he had a chance, and ended up opening the window and jumping out.

The drop from the third floor to the cement sidewalk broke both of his ankles. The prisoner dragged himself to the ER, which was pretty close, and checked himself in.

He sued the hospital because the window didn't have bars. I never found out if he had won or not.
