Is Snoop Dogg carrying his "man purse" in the video?

It's hard to believe that song has been out for ten years. Punk bee-yotch!

I do believe this is the incomparable Richard Cheese. Love this tune.

Actually, it isn't. Wow. Nevermind. Still a great cover.

The Gourds

Also not bluegrass at all. Id pigeonhole it as rockabilly.

This version is from an Austin, TX band called "the Gourds". Highly recommended listening. The Snoop song isn't a completely accurate representation of what they're about, but it you like country/cajun/bluegrass/western swing music with a strange twist, check them out.

I heard this version in '99 back when napster was in (reggie and the) full effect. It's the bassline that got me.

I remember when everyone downloaded it from Napster it was labeled as "Phish." That rumor persisted throughout my freshman year dorm...

I like the effort and the music, but can do without the over-twanged fake southern accent. Lots of country acts do it though.

I didn't click it, but if this is The Gourds, it is NOT Bluegrass at all.

yeah i came in to say I thought Phish did it.. at least thats what the file name said that I P2P'd ages ago. Love this version. good to know who really did it. used to be in my regular "psych up to do work" rotation.

// got my mind on my money and my money on my mind.

When I DL'd it, it was listed as Barenaked Ladies (which, you gotta admit, sounds remarkably possible). Must suck for the Gourds that the majority of people who have copies of this song still don't know who really recorded it.

A friend of mine introduced me to Hayseed Dixie a few years ago, and stumbled across an MP3 of this Gourds track at the same time (but somehow unlabelled). We were convinced it was a HD track too. We went on to embarrass ourselves the next time we saw Hayseed Dixie live; Between each song, they asked the crowd what they wanted to hear next and, like a pair of morans, we were the only ones in the venue bellowing "GIN AND JUICE!! GIN AND JUICE!!!!".

Bet they loved that.

Well, to be perfectly honest, I didn't link to this video but a crappy homemade Youtube music video. I think Baumer is the subby, and congrats on your first green.

Saw the Gourds in concert once. I think they ended with this. I have never, ever stank more like smoke than walking out of that concert...

I miss seeing them.

Keller Williams, along with Larry and Jenny Keel, did an awesome version of "Another Brick in the Wall" in Bluegrass.

I actually didn't read the other thread because this was the first thing I thought of when I read the other headline, but I'm more than willing to admit this is an old tune most farkers have heard.

TX-Law: Well, to be perfectly honest, I didn't link to this video but a crappy homemade Youtube music video. I think Baumer is the subby, and congrats on your first green.

I chose this one because of the slightly superior sound quality over the homemade videos. Thanks for the congrats, I'm just sad I had to try and one-up someone for it. Mods are a funny sort.

/actual one-up is questionable

That cover of "Gin and Juice" is definitely the Gourds. I remember numerous files going around with different band names on it but it's them for sure. Good Austin band, they had minor local hit with "El Paso" a few years back, very good song.

iammess 2008-01-07 05:07:02 AM
I used to stop by a local bar for karaoke night, and was flipping through the huge collection of songs they had one night.

I noticed that under the Phish section they had "Gin and Juice". I pointed it out to a friend of mine. He did the bluegrass version of Gin and Juice, and on the screen it said "Gin and Juice : In the style of Phish"

I guess whoever made the karaoke song used the napster download.

One of my friends sent me this years ago and told me it was Phish. I listened to it, and being the closet-hippie I am, knew instantly it was not.

So we looked into it further, and decided it's clearly ACDC.

/love that tune
//will be stuck in my head all day now

I know this thread is long dead, but I was born and raised in east Texas and lived in Southern Alabama for a spell. So though I havent spoken to those particular guys I know that very very very very few people speak with that glorified southern accent.

Kevin and Jimmy, the two main guys, are from Shreveport LA. They've got fairly thick accents even in conversation.
