believe it or not, a lot of prisons in Tx move offenders to different cells every few months so that no one has time to mess with the walls or doors.

/the more you know ....

You know, I've heard that's a really good movie. Will I be able to follow it if I haven't seen the first nine?

I would guess it would be difficult to follow. I had the same problem with Malcolm X - I missed Malcolm IX.

FTA:

"I'm looking at a scraggly man who hasn't shaved for days, doesn't have his teeth in and he wants a book on fractional geometry," said Elgosin. "You ask him some questions and you find out he knows what he's talking about. I'm consistently surprised."

Obviously this lady hasn't met many college professors or academics in general.

Reminds me of Fark.

que?

Where is that from? If this is a rotsky, I have to stock the damn book at Borders and it is a biatch sometimes because it is so big, though the holiday season is over, so we shall see how well it fits now...

Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption is a fairly graphic and powerful story, which deals with far more issues than just escape. It goes into length about despair, hope, loneliness and loss of humanity in a cage. The book was much different than the movie. I hope they actually read it instead of just labelling it with the escape theme.

You did notice that the bolded themes were actually in the movie, right? If they had been any more visible, you could have seen them from space.

Subtle it was not (though it was still a great movie).

And the ones who saw the movie? And what if some saw the movie and read the book. Shoot, that's four groups. I hope there weren't Cliff's Notes.

Yeah, but the atmosphere and feeling of the book was what gave those themes their ability to grip us the way they do. I found the book was far more powerful than the movie. Stand by Me/ The Body was the same as well. As good as the movie was, the book was on a totally different level.

I'll buy that about 'The Body'; I haven't read 'Shawshank', though.

Since you liked the movie, I'd also imagine you'd get alot out of the book. I hope you get a chance to read it.

hoodiowithtudio: If this is a rotsky

That's no rotsky, that's a reference to Shawshank Redemption.

The inmates were setting up their library and one of them, holding the aforementioned book went "Count of Monte Crisco" only to be put down by another "It's Cristo you dumb-shiat".

Hope this helps.

Oh, and another poster's line of "file it under educational" is from Shawshank Redemption as well, if I recall correctly.

Seriously, why bother censoring "Shawshank Redemption"? Digging a hole in the wall and crawling out a sewer pipe isn't exactly rocket science. If you need to use that book as an FAQ you're not smart enough to pull it off.

My good friend Andy Dufrense once told me about his plan for what he'd stick in the library.

That very night, the bull queers got ahold of him and showed him what they'd like to stick in.

It was the longest night of his life.

Get busy livin' or get busy dyin'.

Oh, Andy!

I don't why they're more worried about a book about a guy who dug a hole in his cell than one about an unregistered Animagus! Gimme a break
