I go windsurfing at South Padre and I always bring the old stuff. If you look like you have money, someone will try to relieve you of some of it.

Wow, they sexually assaulted his girlfriend in front of him for 45 minutes while someone held a gun to his head?

Worthless without pics

/kidding, thats terrible

It doesn't take much to reach $7,000 of gear these days, especially if you use high end equipment.

It is not like they were carrying it on their person, they had a trailer. I think subby is a bit harsh on this one.

The trailer alone could have easily been worth that.

True Story:

One time during a port call in Puerta Vallarta a guy and girl from our ship decided to drunkly head to the beach for a little fun. While hitting up the ATM on the way to the next bar the girl is casually standing behind us waiting, when asked if she wanted to head to the bar with us she said she had something to do and would meet us there.

Turns out she was emptying the guys account as he was being held at gunpoint on the beach by the local cops. She turned over the cash and left to join up with us, never even said a word about it until the command questioned her upon returning to the ship.

In her defense the party WAS jumpin'.

/guy was fine, jst a little bruised.

Weber, who has taught dozens of students in Mexico over the last 10 years, plans to surf in Costa Rica or New Zealand. "No more Mexico," said Hoffman,

Come to Australia, better surfing and our surfers / beach thieves are too busy beating jetskiers (no problem there) and stealing girlfriends (a small problem there)

I hate saying this. I used to live in Mexico and have visited many, many times. I love Mexico and its citizens, most of which are good, honest but poor citizens.

This shiat has to stop. 16 million illegals and counting...

The trouble with Mexico is that it's full of Mexicans. Perhaps the time has come to reinstitute an old custom. Grant Americans prima noctes: first night.

DKnight 2008-01-06 12:38:10 AM
Subby makes the couple sound retarded but they didn't wear $7k of gear on the beach, their RV was looted at gunpoint. If I were traveling for a long time in an RV, I'd have stuff like a TV, computer and cameras that would add up to the value of the theft. I'd only consider them dumb if they stopped their RV in a bad area (although, almost all of Mexico could be considered a bad area for foreign tourists).

RTA: Most of it is about how sucky it is for the locals in Baja Mexico that feed off the tourist money that is no longer coming in. Mexico really needs to get their arses in gear with their police corruption. Crime doesn't pay unless the cops are all bribed, or killed if they're too honest.

OscarTamerz 2008-01-06 12:41:12 AM
They try to look like cops? How about admitting that those are the cops committing the crimes. Mexicans don't bother reporting crime because they know the cops are behind it. Drug trafficking is #1 but kidnapping is #2 throughout Mexico and even though people like to pretend that the illegal aliens aren't going to turn on the US like the fabled Mexican rat/dog it's just a matter of time until the big barrios in the US like Santa Ana and east LA become armed La Emme kidnapping centers. You want your kid back, take out a second mortgage on your house and send it to us or we'll start sending him back one piece at a time, testicles and eyeballs first. Nobody remembers that the sitting president chose TJ to assassinate the front running candidate to be his replacement a few years back just because it is such a corrupt hole.

My advice, just don't go there in the first place...go surf Hawaii or Aus, go dive Cayman...you can hire me as dive guide for Cayman ;-)

Not a thing. Keeps the crime DOWN THERE.

It will slow the vast numbers coming into LA, TX, AZ and NM, who ultimately end up in NY, NJ and elsewhere.

I hate border politics and really hate the idea of the wall, but you know, Mexico uses a wall on their southern border to keep out the refugees/ immigrants they don't want. Why don't we?

How can America continue to support endless streams of illegal immigrants who don't speak English, pay taxes or support the system? Let them in if they are willing to go through the process like my ancestors did. No free rides/ amnesty.
reality: it can't. Something has to change.

A friend and I were in Souther California for a while. She wanted to take a day trip down to Tijuana.

I have another friend who was in the Coast Guard. He once told me not to go to Mexico without an armed party of 10 or 15.

I'm glad I took his advice that day.

Sgt. Expendable [TotalFark] 2008-01-06 12:52:42 AM

So, we didn't go.

These crimes are already down there?! The article is not about crime coming up but about crime staying there.

They have a wall because their southern border is much smaller and gets much less traffic. There are more opportunities south of Mexico then in Mexico =P

My Mexican friend says that when he goes to visit family in Mexico he fills up his tank in San Diego and drives to the border without stoping, then drives another 200 miles into Mexico before he stops.

This.

/Lived in southern Arizona & southern California over 20 years... always hear bad stories about Mexico. Bad crime, make-you-ill water, corrupt cops. Nevertheless, definitely the place to go if you want to be robbed and/or have your girlfriend raped in front of you.

Lori Hoffman, a San Diego-area emergency room nurse, said she was sexually assaulted Oct. 23 by two masked men in front of her boyfriend, San Diego Surfing Academy owner Pat Weber, who was forced to kneel at gunpoint for 45 minutes. They were at a campground with about 30 tents, some 200 miles south of the border.

At gunpoint, in a crowded area, in their own trailer? I think subby's the dumbass, not them.

There's nothing racist about calling Mexico a corrupt shiathole. That's just how extremely poor countries work, especially when much of their economy is dependent on much richer neighboring countries.

And HempHead, nice trollin' there.

2. A wall won't keep American tourists safe in Mexico

Mexico, the next great land of glass that shall be created, right after Iran and Iraq.

Don't believe me? Wait awhile. When the corruption turns into a full-scale civil war that threatens our country, we'll lay absolute waste to them. Our leaders, present and future, are that corrupt.
