She's winning the delegate race by a huge margin. So, it'll probably take a while.

Don't count her out yet. Super Tuesday is coming, and that's national politics, as opposed to the retail politics of Ohio and New Hampshire.

She won't. She'll mumble vague prophecies for the rest of her life. She won't hesitate to let America know they should have elected her as long as the cameras are on. Then it will be the mirror.

I wouldn't count out Hillary myself. Obama might've won Iowa by too much - 8 over Edwards, 9 over Hillary. Especially with Hillary and the "Comeback Kid" stuff, if Obama beats Hillary by less than 9, guess how it'll be spun, and guess how the media will portray what happened...considering their year-long "she's inevitable" campaign just got blown out of the water.

Uh, what?

Chakro 2008-01-05 06:40:07 PM
A week ago I read articles which said any Democrat who placed 3rd or lower in Iowa had no chance. Now that Hillary is 3rd, they seem to be backsliding on this point. Hillary brings ratings and the media want her in the race as long as possible so they will keep playing up her chances.

NancyGracesTesticles: She's winning the delegate race by a huge margin.

Am I wrong, or isn't the delegate race only decided in Iowa so far? Any other states are simply conjecture at this point.

I'm amused at how everyone keeps calling Obama a rock star.

Now I may disagree with the man on about every issue, but I think he is a genuine person who honestly thinks he is doing the best thing for the country. I would really hate for him to wind up fitting the rock star analogy.

Obama's Rock Star Presidency.

Jan 09 - Following a landslide victory, Obama sweeps into the top spot with many cheers and big parties.

March 09 - Having assembled a crack team, Obama and his cabinet work with congress to pull off a lot of great hits in the first 100 days.

Jan 2010 - As Obama looks at his second year at the top, he rehashes a few idea that didn't make it into his first year, ignoring the new suggestions coming from his team.

Aug 2010 - 2 cabinet members replaced. Message is just "not as good as last year, but still pretty good"

Jan 2011 - Obama really starts to strike out on his own, having replaced the entire cabinet, and is having a major problem working with congress. While they are all still Democrats, Obama claims the congressional Dems "Just don't get my vision" and starts vetoing everything they send him, preferring to push his own executive orders instead of letting the whole government work together to make laws.

Dec 2011 - With his whole new team in place for a while, his popularity starts to really drop. "It's just not the same since Richardson isn't SoS anymore. And ever since Clark left the DoD over the total global troop withdrawal and military dismantlement, I just haven't felt it from this administration" one voter was heard to say after leaving an Obama speech. "I don't know if I'll vote for him again"

Nov 2012 - After his massive popularity to start with, Obama's rise to power and fame was short lived and resulted in that classic pattern that all such rises seem to result in. His own party had rejected him earlier that year by picking a new lead singer Presidential candidate for the next election. The night of the election Obama just could not take watching another person get all the praise he had once had, his own people now cursing his name and supporting a new, flashier, candidate. He was found in the bathroom of the residential wing of the White House, having taken too many sleeping pills and had choked on his own vomit.

Hmm, I don't think a rock star is really what we want in the White House.

//Don't think Obama is a rock star, nor that this is what will happen to him.

//Just wish people would think before using analogies.

The person who gets the nomination isn't the one who wins the most early primaries, it's the one that goes to their party's convention with the most delegates.

Look at Guliani, he blew off Iowa (:P) , and New Hampshire, to focus on Florida, because that's where the delegates are.

that's what so interesting about obama's momentum is that by the old rules, hillary would have already had a lock on the nomination. she has the superdelegates already in her pocket but if the independent and young voters and the grassroots keeps up, obama will trump that easily with the delegates from state wins. according to the superdelegates she had in iowa, cnn was already predicting a hillary blowout in ia that didn't happen.

I didn't think they would be starting this early in the process, my bad. That's why I asked, thanks! I would think they would wait to see how their state went and base their decisions on that somewhat, even though they aren't bound to. Show's what I know, learn something everyday, forget it the next.

Suicidal Writer, no, what's funny is that vowels constitute syllables. 3 vowels (in this particlar 'word') = 3 syllables.

My understanding is that these numbers are still able to change up until the convention. Any information on how often superdelegates have changed their position in the course of the primary process?

phillydrifter 2008-01-05 09:33:35 PM
Suicidal Writer just to set things straight, and I certainly have nothing against you, 'I-o-wa' is 3 syllables. Whether or not your dialect only uses 2 syllables for it ('i-wa', perhaps? I can certainly see it) has nothing to do with the proper pronunciation.

The democratic party primaries are designed so that 20% of delegates are 'superdelegates', i.e. party officials rather than state-selected voters. Most of them have already declared their vote one way or another, so basically she has about 70% of the directly buyable votes, whereas Obama has only about 20% of them. Overall, she's still got a lead.

My faith in our electoral process is so low that I believe that Hillary is already the Democratic nominee and was before any of them even showed up in Iowa. Reality has no bearing on any of this, it was decided long ago that democrats were going to get Hillary to vote for against any of the republicans and that is it, period. Mind you I'm a pessimist.

In both the post-Iowa polls that have been taken Obama has a double digit lead over Clinton in NH. This even includes the ARG poll, which shows him with a 12 point lead. This is huge, considering the fact that ARG constantly had Clinton winning by ridiculously large margins in Iowa and NH and was largely thought to be an outlier that's biased in her favor.

Also, it's VERY important to note that super delegates can change their vote whenever they want, and it's likely that they'll all line up behind the frontrunner before the nominating convention. If Obama wins the primary voter delegates but doesn't get the nomination because of super delegates there would be a shiatstorm of epic proportions, and I don't think the party wants that at all.

Count me as another registered Dem who would think that a Rep win would be suited to a Clinton nomination.
Every thing I've seen, everyone I've talked to, it all points to a dislike for the dynastic connotations a Clinton nomination. If the Dems push her through, they will have alienated a very large part of their base. People keep talking about Paul splitting the Rep party, but I think a Clinton nomination could fracture the Dem party.
Now that I've put it in print, I kinda like the idea, four viable parties?
Go Hillary go.
