I had assumed this was obviously some kind of gross over statement by the subby after one guy in a newspaper didn't get his puppy or something. I mean the Nigerian Puppy Scam?

\Son of a biatch.

Just for future reference, the mods don't allow stuff like that.

As for cute puppies..

yeah, they're doing that too.

I won some European National Lottery last week, an e-mail to my work address told me so.

I'm so glad I saw that Futurama movie... otherwise? Disaster!

Actually, they DO allow it. Because I've seen it in several threads.

Check out sites like www.419eater.com. These idiots will stoop to anything to get you to send them money.

If you are dumb enough to fall for their bullshiat you deserve to lose your money, it's that simple. Want a dog in the US simply go to your local shelter. There are plenty of dogs waiting to be adopted before their are killed.

You should really check with Grampy (new window) about your opinion on this. It's a FARK cliche for a reason.

SHAME ON YOU

squeez cheez 2008-01-05 07:50:25 PM
I put a mattress up for sale on Craigslist for $50 or so, just wanted to get rid of it, and the first email was from a chummy-sounding guy who called himself 'Pastor Tony', or something like that, who had some story that he was trying to tell. I smelled something rotten immediately & never responded, but this is kinda what I expected would happen.

You have to be pretty gullible to give money to someone you don't know like this, and apparently there are an awful lot of gullible people out there...

the other place it's all over is Craigslist - of course anything not local on craigslist is probably a scam...

Oh god I hate PETA freaks who get my ads banned on Craigslist for trying to sell a pup
/I hate the scammers from Myspace classifieds who try to send me international checks

This is not new. They've been doing the puppy gig for at least two years. I use to be a relay operator for deaf people and we did IP calls. Tons of them were those bastards using stolen credit cards to order stuff, even calls to their "mules" , making all lovey dovey, setting those poor bastards up.

"i love you baby you send laptop to my house i cant wait meet you i come see you in america i love i love you" bla bla bla.

Then they moved on the puppy crap when that game started getting played out. But they still do all of it. I use to sabotage their calls every chance I got.

I'm going to stop rambling now lol.

My girlfriend got one of these emails last week. I've been spending a large amount of time lately looking at english bulldog rescue sites.

Thanks Pastor Tony.

TrixieDelite 2008-01-05 08:17:13 PM
The ad ran here in the Santa Cruz Sentinel, and a scam alert ran within a day or two.
The PastorTony email was a nice touch, dontcha think?

I'm not a pETA freak, but why are you selling puppies?

Before you get another litter going, go visit your local animal shelter and then tell me selling puppies is a good idea.

Nah, they'll use the Angelina Jolie Method of Acquisitions: whatever it is you want, german engineering, Japanese electronics, a baby, it's always looks cooler when you get it from another country.

INVISIBLE DOG

MiriamSingsLoud 2008-01-05 08:27:02 PM
Actually, my hometown newspaper has a whole section in the classifieds for (legit) free pets. Of course, those ones are never purebreds. Let's not be stupid.

I see ad's from the SPCA in the paper, saying free animals in the classifieds is just asking for the animal to be ground into dog/cat food..

/Or something like that.

Good point. Most say something like "to good home only," implying that they want to do a home visit. Still, if I had to give an animal away, I'd try to give it to somebody I knew personally.

specialkae 2008-01-05 09:00:46 PM
Free puppies? Where? Can I get an Akita or a GSD? Oh, from Africa someplace? Well, gee, I dunno about the shipping costs, malaria vaccines and all...Oh, but if I adopt one, it'll free your 12 dogs being held captive and all I have to pay is a measly $200 fee? Alright, sign me up!

/puppies!

rodzilla_17 2008-01-05 10:06:04 PM
It must be a african thing. if you drive anywhere in louisianna theres a african on every street corner trying to sell you some illicit merchandise, or a oven door in a tv box with a "remote".

Just another way people hard-up for a purebred dog get screwed over.

Folks, hit the dog pound. Lots of healthy, loyal, mixed-breed critters more than happy to come home with you. Usually under $100 including spay / neuter and shots, not to mention you are saving them from death row.

simpsonfan 2008-01-05 11:48:01 PM
You can get dogs from the pound. And there are plenty of breeders in theis country. Why would anybody need to get a dog from Africa? If I was going to buy something from Africa, I would want something not available from elsewhere. African products, art, traditional clothing, pottery, etc. Something that 'says' Africa, not some routine dog. Expensive to ship a dog, customs, medical stuff involved too.

I have a very direct solution to the Nigerian scam problem.

www.immediart.com

No more Nigeria, no more Nigerian scams.

Indeed, if you're going to be offered a scam dog, it should damn well be one of these (new window).

But will I find a dog that will fit in the palm of my hand?
