Wow, the roommate and I will be learning this as soon as I get back to school.

I won't be able to stop listening to all their stuff on Youtube.

There are other bluegrass tributes around. I think it is kind of sad that bluegrass has become a niche enough that it is barely able to make it past tributes and covers anymore.

Look up "Hayseed Dixie" while you're at it, then. Mix it up with a little bluegrassed-up AC/DC.

It's popular with the hipsters. I just happened to see one performance of a bluegrass festival in a giant Victorian house in Berkeley that was a vegetarian co-op. I love the Bay Area.

The Yonder Mountain String Band cover of this is so much better.

They play this and other similar stuff 24x7 on XM Special X. I like my Special X.

My friends and I have been doing stuff like this since for 15 years or more. The whole Walnut Valley Festival each year is little more than a clever cover-tune contest between nerds with stringed instruments. Last year I heard a guy do "She Blinded Me With Science" on a mandocello. Awesome.

Totally awesome.

If you want some awesome instrumental bluegrass, check out Strength in Numbers' "The Telluride Sessions." It is pure, beautiful awesomeness.

Old crow medicine show and Yonder Mountain String band are my favorite of the contemporary bluegrass bands.

A pretty good blugrass bar band: The speakeasy boys

Flatirons covered this pretty nicely, too. Not exactly bluegrass style, but countrified.

SCOTS is a great band.

Heavens! Forced to reward a band for music of theirs you enjoy? If you like the freaking band BUY the record. If you don't want the record company to get a huge chunk of it, buy direct from the band. Downloading a sample of a band's song isn't a sin. Never rewarding them for their talent is.

Roosevelt 2008-01-06 02:33:00 PM
The Bluegrass band I am really listening to now is not really BG, just old time country folk music, the Carolina Chocolate Drops. They have a lot of real traditional stuff, but here is their awesome cover of Hit Em Up.

Perhaps I should clarify, I used to have a sorta big collection (200 cds) but then they got stolen so I've been draggin my feet when it comes to buying cds. Also I'm a broke college student and lastly, this album came out in 2004, so it looks as tho I will be buying this one, the Fade to Bluegrass Vol. 2 and their Whole Lotta Bluegrass cd so :P

/Is a music pack rat
//Will eventually listen to all of it

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but they played the opening riff wrong.

Then again, so does Zakk Wylde... PLAY IT LIKE RANDY DID, ZAKK!!!

Don't forget Kiss My Grass- their tribute to KISS. Saw this guys last year & they were a hoot! If you get a chance to see them don't pass it up.
