I still can't quite believe he died.

I always thought one day he'd come back to us.

I'll do my loving in the winter.

upload.wikimedia.org In many ways he was the Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

During the instrumental part of the song where the video shows trombone and euphonium playing it sounds like the parts are played by Kazoos. Is that just bad sound quality or did they really use Kazoos?

I really love you, and I mean you
The star above you, crystal blue...

Still have the U.S. double release combining Barrett & The Madcap Laughs, but unfortunately one of the discs has become unplayably warped. Hate that. I've got a bootleg a collector friend was fairly enthusiastic about, though not as much as he was over a double LP Costello boot -- off the top of his head, he said it was worth around $200. Who knew?

I've got a bike you can ride it if you like
It's got a basket a bell that rings and things to make it look good
I'd give it to you if I could but I borrowed it....

Thank You, Syd
How I wish you were here

Set The Controls...

Well Syd sure had talent in the psychadelic era. It's almost strange though. Pink floyd may have never done Dark Side, Wish You Were Here or The Wall if he haden't gone mad.

It's a shame he passed on, but he didn't take care of himself too well, and having the beetis (new window) you need to be careful

Actually, Syd was not born on the 5th, he was born on the 6th.

Syd Barrett - Jan 6
Roger Waters - Sep 6
David Gilmore - Mar 6

And for those keeping score...

Rick Wright - July 28
Nick Mason - Jan 27

But in better news, psychedelic casualty ROKY ERICKSON is back from the brink of insanity and is touring extensively for the first time in 30 years! He'll be on "Austin City Limits" next week, in fact, with guest stars including Billy Gibbons!

Holy cow, is that ever great news! Roky got the raw deal of raw deals. ZZ Top's/Billy Gibbons' first band was the Moving Sidewalks, in tribute to the 13th Floor Elevators.

I'm so glad no one has popped in here and said something like "Pink Floyd was only good while Syd was with them," or "Piper at the Gates of Dawn is the only one worth listening to." I always think these people are trying to work some kind of angle, but I never understand what it is. I also have a hard time taking them seriously - how can anyone possibly believe the second statement, particularly when Dark Side is easily the best album... of all time. Anyway, thanks for the excellent submission, submitter!

I prefer Dark Side of the Moon over all of the other Floyd albums. I was huge Barrett fan when I was introduced to him through a college friend. He had put together a lot of the more melodic stuff from Piper and the (then) two solo albums.
Syd's music seemed less plodding and depressing than the stuff penned by Waters. I bought the solo albums and Opel, and Peel Sessions, and scored bootlegs of "Apples & Oranges" and "Scream Thy Last Scream." I found the music colorful, angular, and somewhat earnest, while most of the Floyd stuff seemed too brooding and down.
From Syd I went through a nice phase of Stone Roses, Trashcan Sinatras, XTC, Brian Eno,and finally The Cocteau Twins.
