Well, if he's innocent, sucks to be him. If he's a crook, hope they give him the max for making Democrats look bad.

While Celis is not licensed to practice law in Texas, he has argued that he can legally practice law in Mexico.

Defiantly a Democrat with his lame@$$ reasoning!

agreed. if both parties booted out their corrupt people instead of just accepting them as the way things were, we'd be better off.

Yeah, look at all these prominent Democrats rushing to defend him!

``What is becoming abundantly clear is that we're looking at a political vendetta by an openly ambitious Republican politician in Austin who wants to score points by persecuting a prominent Democrat in South Texas,' said Tony Canales, an attorney for Celis.

Oh wait, that's his lawyer. And the only person in the article defending him.

Keep trying, though.. You were SO close with this one.

Yeah, and the exact same headline would apply if it was a Republican. Both parties are corrupt to the core. Yawn. Thanks for the update, Ric Romero.

Now what would make the legal team possibly think that the "politically motivated attack by the Justice Department" defense might work? Hmmm...

I'll take "The DOJ has become the enforcement wing of the current ruling party, with the AG acting as the primary shield protecting the White House from any sort of legal repercussions stemming from their misdeeds" for 500, Alex.

Again, giving $ to a Democratic candidate doesn't exactly match up with using $ to influence lawmakers who are actively setting policy in office, like Abramoff and the rest of his crew. One activity can be stopped by getting over it and voting. The other activity gives your vote a big F-U and can hurt the lives of hundreds of millions of Americans.

Please don't confuse and upset the special needs kids until after we've collected the glue, crayons, and (especially) scissors.

Well, considering that the REPS DO get rid of their corrupt members you might want to rethink your post.

That Dem, Jefferson, who commandeered a National Guard truck to get $100,000 from his during Katrina is STILL in office.

Jim_Callahan 2008-01-05 02:53:58 AM
Uh... while I dislike the party as much as anyone whose feelings are short of pathological on the subject, it's not 'the Democrats', it's 'the defendant's lawyer', which is a different can of fish altogether regardless of how said lawyer votes.

Jefferson is from Louisiana. All bets are off when it comes to politicians from that corrupt hell-hole. I'm sure Coonasses wouldn't vote for a politician unless they can prove without a doubt that they'll take kickbacks and bribes. They're like the Middle East that way.

And yea, the Dems need to kick him to the curb. Even if it means they'll have one less in a contested state.

Back to Texas politics:

Oy vey. The Republicans all suck, and the Democrats are so demoralized and scaredy that they won't run, even when they're good people. Ron Paul is yet another Republican making it look like all Texans are batshiat crazy.

If only there was some kind of person who could bring the people from different sides together so that they do more than point fingers.

you say that like its a bad thing.

why would Jefferson still being in office make me want to rethink my post?
It just makes my point even stronger. Jefferson is a stain on the democratic party and should have been booted out ages ago.

The "it's an isolated incident" folks would have a lot better chance of getting their message over if Hsu hadn't gone to prison this week.

I'm surprised they even mentioned his party on this. Normally, the media conveniently forgets party affiliation when a Dem is involved.

There's more to this than what the Guardian article states - check out the local paper, Corpus Christi Caller-Times at caller.com for more info. This guy is from Mexico and has been illegally operating as an attorney in the State of Texas. He was not licensed as an attorney nor is their any proof that he graduated anywhere with a law degree. He also claimed to be a sheriff's deputy from a nearby county.
