...well, that and the fact that Mike Huckabee is batshiat insane.

Well, crap. My post made sense 45 minutes ago.

So much to work with here. From TFA:
"As president, Huck would support a constitutional amendment banning abortion and would give science a back seat to religion. "Science changes with every generation and with new discoveries, and God doesn't," he says. "So I'll stick with God if the two are in conflict."

I wonder if he goes to a doctor when he's sick.

I think that belief that the theory of evolution, as it exists now, is not practical scientific truth should immediately disqualify a person from holding any public office in the United States.

The reason is very simple: to align yourself with table-pounding creationists proves that you are not only anti-intellectual, but unable to make decisions based on evidence rather than personal opinion.

There is no rational disagreement about the fundamentals of evolutionary theory. If you can't set aside your "gut" or your "feelings" or your "faith" to understand that this is a process that happens and has happened, then you are simply not qualified to hold public office. If you are going to be the leader of the free world everybody needs to know whether or not you have the ability to make rational choices in the face of overwhelming evidence and arguments in favor of those rational choices.

Otherwise we end up in a quagmire in Iraq.

Surging Mike Huckabee may talk about poverty and trade, but the wild-eyed Baptist goofball doesn't believe he is evolved from primates. Does that even worry Republican voters?

At minimum 50% of Republican voters probably agree with him, so, why would that worry them?

chimp_ninja [TotalFark] 2008-01-04 05:03:57 PM
Also from TFA: "One of his first acts as governor was to block Medicaid from funding an abortion for a mentally retarded teenager who had been raped by her stepfather -- an act in direct violation of federal law, which requires states to pay for abortions in cases of rape. "The state didn't fund a single such abortion while Huckabee was governor," says Dr. William Harrison of the Fayetteville Women's Clinic. "Zero."

chimp_ninja [TotalFark] 2008-01-04 05:04:36 PM
And one more: "In the first Republican debate in New Hampshire, Huckabee, apparently unaware that human beings are primates, responded to a question about evolution by saying, "If anybody wants to believe that they are the descendants of a primate, they are certainly welcome to do it."

Marcus Aurelius [TotalFark] 2008-01-04 05:07:07 PM
Footing your own bills? Fiscal responsibility? Help for poor people? This is madness!

Maybe we can have a Mike Huckabee/Sherri Shephard ticket?

whidbey [TotalFark] 2008-01-04 05:18:23 PM
Yeah, keep gawking, but this is a void that very quickly will be filled as Republicans scramble to vote for what they consider the Lesser of Two Evils.

Like Obama's evil.

No, Hillary isn't winning jack.

Simple Rule: If you don't believe in science, you don't get to use any technology that is derived from it.

Modern medicine? Sorry. You better start praying to make that cancer go away.

Fancy new car? Start walking.

Satellite TV? Make hand puppets.

Indoor plumbing? A tool of the Devil.

I would think from your quote he does. Are his belief in God and going to the doctor when sick in conflict with each other?

It is when you don't believe that the virus you are suffering from has evolved over time.

The Iowa Caucuses, of which there have been 19 in modern times, have produced 3 non-incumbent winners who later became President. I wouldn't be too concerned about "President Huckabee". This guy typifies why the Republicans lost in 2006- they became so obsessed with the perpetual-war, Government-For-Jesus! neoconservatives that they've completely alienated the limited government, psuedo-libertarian wing of the GOP, which has been a critical part of the Republican coalition since Goldwater. Without bringing them back into the fold, which only Ron Paul is actually trying to do, the GOP will choke again in 2008. They'll get the 20-30% evangelical/pro-war vote, but nobody else.

I would generally support a Republican over a Democrat, but I'm scared shiatless that this guy may actually win the damn thing.

He'd beat Hillary and Obama, I'd bet. If either one of those gets the nomination, you'd better believe a massive amount of people are going to vote soley on gender or race (respectively). They won't shout it at rallies, but be damn sure neither of those two can win just because of that issue.

We's farked.

Yet a virus evolving is not the same as a primate evolving into a man.

Let's get down to it. Calling a man insane because that man believes God created him is what this is about. If Democrats wish for a victory, they'd do well not to embrace such obvious bigotry.

I always thought of him a nice, if somewhat goofy guy, but hardly presidential. If this claim is correct, then I was wrong...he is a total dick.

downstairs: He'd beat Hillary and Obama, I'd bet.

Probably too early to be sure, but recent polls have shown all of the top three Dems handily beating Huckabee. Dems LOVE the idea of a Huckabee nomination.

Yes, but the doctor usually tells him "Ooo eee, ooo ah ah, ting tang, walla walla bing bang."

We'll see. I just don't think most of America, right now, would honestly elect a black and/or female president. Sad, but it just don't see it.

Like I said- polls and rallies... that's easy. But when one is in a private polling booth... I really think gender and race will be a big issue. No one is ever going to come out and say it, but a lot of them are thinking it.

Let this be a lesson to big-business Republicans who thought they could pay lipservice to religious fundamentalism, reap easy votes, and not get burned. Did you really think you would be able to keep the true believers out forever?

At least he walks the walk.

Well science faces the evidence and progresses. The Bible still is a piece of superstitious twaddle.

You don't 'believe' in evolution any more than you 'believe' in gravity or electrodynamics.

oldandwiser 2008-01-04 07:14:17 PM
I will say it again....we DID NOT evolve from apes. We are related to apes. For example, you are related to your grandfather and cousin. You "evolved" from your grandfather, but are only related to your cousin. You could exist without having a cousin, but not a grandfather.
