If I knew I had the same birthday as Stipe, I'd forgotten. He's 48, huh? Maybe someone will give him a gift certificate for a free prostate exam...

Me, I'm gonna slice myself open and count the rings, then maybe have a piece of birthday pie.

Michael's not so hot on the whole "pitch" thing here, is he? I don't remember ever noticing that before much.

Still, that was pretty great. Back when they really used to jangle... good ol' Rickenbacker.

Heh. Well my girlfriend performs a completely thorough oral examination of my genitalia on my birthday, so I hope so, for him.

I only know three songs by REM and guess what? I don't like two of them! That's right, I'm not cool. I don't like REM. Don't hang out with me, I'm a nerd!

I always thought "I ACCELERATE FOR SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE" would make a great bumper sticker.

So, is this the thread where we all prove how cool we are by hating on REM?

.....

Nope, can't do it.

/now and forever will be my favourite band.

Are they onions on Peter Buck's belt? I didn't know that was the style at the time.

They were red hot at this era (Fables). They proved you didn't need distortion to have balls musically.

And if there's one thing Joe Dirt knows, it's music.

Wasn't used to seeing Michael Stipe with hair. It's like watching Scott Wieland front R.E.M.

Watching this you realize how underappreciated Mike Mills is as a bassist. I'm not as much an REM fan today as I was as a little dude, but I've rediscovered Mills' bass skills thanks to YouTube, something I missed as a kid.

I like the songs he sings too, hasn't done much since the 80s though.
