I always like a good "what...the...fark?" video to begin my day, and Tom Waits never disappoints.

the neville brothers version of "the wire" theme song is still my favorite, but thanks to the subby for acknowledging west baltimore and her anti-heroes.

I humbly bow at the greatness that is Tom Waits.

Wow, I remember when this first came out, it sounded jagged and painful to me at the time. Now it sounds just fine. That happens a lot with me and his music, like it has to age like wine or whiskey a while before the melodies come out. Genius.

Strong stuff. An acquired taste.

I think the Five Blind Boys cover of this is the best Tom Waits cover evar. It's on my "daily" playlist.

And just when the hell is this finally going to come out on DVD?!?!? I've been waiting for years! I remember seeing it in the theater about a block from 9th and Hennepin...

I can't wait for the new season! I just recently found out that both Dominic West and Idris Elba are Brits. They had me fooled.

/that's some fine casting there, Lou

I see this video isn't free from the "Kill the internet" Tom Waits spammer. Fun stuff.

I prefer when he sings about real stuff. The preacher-pretense just rings too 'novelty tune' to me.

It's a tribute to Waits' skills as a songwriter/composer that for the last few years I have been convinced this song is a traditional one, and has probably been around for the better part of a century.

1987. Huh. Well done there, Mr. Waits, instant classic.

Yeah what's up with that? Clue me in here.

I don't really know, I've noticed it for about a year now, not all the time, the person comes and goes, but they always leave a message about getting Tom Waits' music off Youtube because it kills creative expression or some such nonsense. I always mark them down when I see them. Not much, but it's something.

Tom Waits is brilliant. Performer, Songwriter, Musician. There are very very very few people who do each one so well.

Lennon, Cash, Miles, Waits, Stevie.

I think those are the top 5 (not in that order) for being extraordinary in each of those categories...

Did I forget anyone?

I don't know where you'd put him, but I think Nick Cave is extraordinary in those categories as well.
