My brother-in-law goes to Bonnaroo every year. This might be the year we join him.

Hang around a bunch of hippies to see a band that used to be god-like out of some misplaced feeling of nostalgia? I'll pass.

Plus, even if they're good, some idiot will still ruin it by yelling out "Freebird!"

You'll never hear it as people are three days into a 95 degree dust festival and can barely get up to move. Plus, they ahve already yelled freebird 100 times.

I've gone to Bonnaroo every year but the first and it's only gotten better each time.

I'm just waiting for this rumor to get confirmed and denied fifty more times before believing it.

Is My Morning Jacket going to be there too?

[I remember they played at Bonnaroo two years in a row, or something like that, a few years ago....and that their show was THE or ONE OF THE best bands/shows at the festival]

[if MMJ and Led Zep were on the same bill..... drool.....]

madden101 2008-01-02 11:33:22 AM
Bonnaroo isn't all that far from me! Too bad I'll be taking a week off for week two weeks after that (incidentally, to drive through the Manchester area en route to Florida). Maybe I could score tickets & miss just a day or two....

I'm trying to think what "newer" bands I'd like to see open for Zeppelin at a show like this. Dinosaur Jr. has been so great on their recent reunion shows, and I think are close enough that a lot of fans would overlap. Maybe somebody like Built to Spill too.

Tennessee? TN gets Zep?

There is no God.

heavymetal [TotalFark] 2008-01-02 12:42:21 PM
I live pretty close but never went. This is the first time I even had the notion to maybe go. I guess I can handle the heat and stuff but since I have been able to afford the expensive close seats, I havce found general admission festivals like this less appealling. I would rather wait for their arena tour and dish out the cash to scalpers for a good seat so I can actually see the band as they perform.

It is also not really my type of crowd either. I am seriously considering going to Rocklahoma 2008 though. I actually think at Rocklahoma it would be a more "Led Zepplin" type crowd. I never categorized Led Zeppelin as a "hippie" band but rather strait forward "rockers" and Bonarroo attract the "hippie" element while Rocklahoma attracts the "guitar rock/arena rock" crowd.

Try Ozzfest in late August in NC... it's HOT! Damn HOT!

I did it in Nashville, TN in August before. While I said I can handle the heat and stuff, because of that Ozzfest I have my reservations about wanting to. Especially since Ozzfest was only one day and Bonarroo is three. I was wron out after one day at Ozzfest, I don't evenwant to thik what three days woudl be like. If I went I would have to have an RV with good air conditioning.

Alison Krauss is supposed to tour with Robert Plant this May and June, and they're supposed to play Bonnaroo.

They have some UK dates up for May now.

John Paul Jones was at Bonnaroo hanging out and jamming last June, though.

Dino Jr.
Ween
Elephant 6 Collective bands (EVERYONE ONE OF THEM ON STAGE AT ONCE)
Built to spill
Led Zep

I second the Wolfmother opening for Zepp.

I nominate Clutch. I would kill you all for tickets to that concert.

Their performance at 'roo this year was one of the best I've ever seen from them. That's out of about 14 times now. I just wish they'd ditch the damned harmonica player.

Oh, we will be there.

LOL - how different is June in Canada (80-90) to June in TN?

WILL WE DIE?

IAMBOB 2008-01-02 05:57:44 PM
Maybe I'll finally make it this year.
Went on a roadtrip with a chick to meet some friends in Manchester the first year, but we hadn't heard about it, and didn't know what the hell was going on. Thought about going, but it was already sold out. Too bad, the music we heard from our hotel was pretty sweet.

/closest I've gotten

RanDomino 2008-01-02 05:58:58 PM
Now I just need to raise $7 million to buy a ticket!

June in TN is very nice actually.

Please stop biatching about the hippies at Bonnaroo. IMO there have been less hippies there each year anyway, as the festival line-up continues to transition from primarily "jam bands" to mainstream rock groups.

I still don't know if I want to go this year. Zep would be amazing, but two smaller, less expensive festivals might be a better investment.

camicillo 2008-01-02 06:01:41 PM
I went last year, awesome, but the police sucked, they left their set 40 minutes early. Definitely going again this year.

studebaker hoch 2008-01-02 06:02:51 PM
Tickets to that thing are going to sell out in five minutes.

/Have fun with the scalpers, remember it's easier to count hundreds.

Impudent Domain 2008-01-02 06:02:51 PM
YEAH! because it's not like we haven't heard that crap over and over, and over again millions of times.

So how many other Farkers are going to 'roo this year? :P

Tastes Like Chicken [TotalFark] 2008-01-02 06:04:54 PM
I am so there.

But is this confirmed by the Bonnaroo staff? This rumor has been leaking all over the net for a month or two now, and I have yet to see an official announcement. Last year the same thing happened and it turned out to be false rumors.

Wow. You're in the northeast. I certainly couldn't see that coming.

/actually, I could
//either there or the west coast

Though, to be fair, retarded redneck locals (and FARKers, as is obvious from this thread) don't deserve B-roo

I predict this concert will never amount to anything. It will go down like a lead balloon.

I had seriously thought about going down to 'roo this year, but I just recently decided not to. Part of me is now upset, but the rest of me is happy because I don't have to worry about trying to get tickets. I might have a better shot if they do MSG, which would be a hell of a lot closer to me anyway.

KellyLockhart [TotalFark] 2008-01-02 06:12:12 PM
If this gets officially confirmed by Bonnaroo, I am there without a doubt. I only live an hour away from Manchester as it is.
