Wow... an article about an article. Let's pile on that speculation, surely that is still news.

Depeche Mode is still around?

What'd you do, just submit the article again after reading it on FARK?

Last album was pretty good. This is one band that could do it because its got a hardcore base that will pretty much buy anything they put out.

That is incredibly funny. Depeche Mode and their label (forget Sire, that's the American distributor) Mute Records are so heavily connected to each other... in fact, they have one of the best record deals in the business, and the owner of Mute is heavily involved in the production of their records.

Actually, of all the bands out there, they are the *least* likely to leave their label.

Good pile of rubbish article, though.

Yeah, I was just going to mention that. And, actually, you don't even have to forget Sire--they won't leave Sire because international distribution, for whatever money it brings in, requires almost no expenditure beyond the costs of physical marketing and distribution (that is, there isn't actually any more product), so it's a pretty easy way to make some money. So, yeah, Depeche Mode probably won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

I hear that. I hadn't really gave Depeche Mode much time for well over a decade, but Playing the Angel grabbed my attention more than anything since Violator. I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm a younger fan, and didn't really know them till after a friend discovered Violator in 2001/2. Only then did I realise I'd been pretty much trying to perfect a sound in my own music they'd achieved a decade earlier.. ah well!

As long as they give it away for free on the Net...no harm done.

If you had told me in the mid-80's that both DM and The Cure would be viable, productive bands in 2008 I would have thought you were out of your mind on cheap, legal ecstasy, like the rest of us.

batsforsteadman 2008-01-05 05:07:46 PM
Won't matter to me. they are still one of the few bands that I still will physically go buy the cd to support them and their label.

/dedicated DM fan.
