Due to the lengthy construction project on Indianapolis Boulevard and other problems, the Blue Top drive-in restaurant in Highland closed for good. Car windows were flown at half mast in tribute.

Illinois reported a record number of rabies cases, all of them involving bats. People were advised to avoid contact with bats. Fortunately, the White Sox had been doing that since April.

I miss 2005..

A Merrillville clerk-treasurer's office employee, described as "everyone's grandmother," was accused of embezzling about $300,000 in town funds. The woman reportedly confessed to having a severe knitting addiction.

Maybe Merrillville's grandmother was taking the money to Munster's Grandpa.

Ross Township's Fire Department got complaints it wasn't using its warning sirens properly and they were so loud they knocked one man off his toilet. Instead of changing the siren policy, an ordinance was passed requiring that toilets be equipped with seat belts.

FTW!!!!1!!

//It's Muncie, IN subby

there is a munster near chicago and a muncie near indianapolis.

so, in this case, it's munster.

My personal favorite...In Lake County, flyers supporting the re-election of Mayor Dan Klein were placed in his opponent's yard saying "Vote for Dan; don't be dum." The real surprise was that the flyers came from the teachers' union.

Was in this area for the 1st time this year -- took the Shore Line from Chicago -- I had to go visit the 3 Floyds Brewery in Munster -- got off at the station, no cabs -- took 1/2 hour to get one. Hammond looked dead. Had to wait a 1/2 hour to get one back to the station.

Is 3 Floyds the only thing worth seeing in this county?

TheDarkSaintOfGin 2007-12-30 10:21:56 PM
I am from there. Well two towns away. And there was a reason I moved out 2 weeks I turned 18 and commuted to high school for the rest of the year.

FTFA: A Porter County teenager told police he was doing 93 in a 45 m.p.h. zone because he had to get home to catch the school bus. A judge ordered him to ride the bus as punishment for a previous speeding ticket.

Anyone else see a "Ferris Bueller" moment going on there?

Busted!

You know now I've read the entire article. Maybe its from growing up there, but I'm not sure what's tongue in cheek. I can see ALL of those things happening.

I bet you've never smelled a real school bus before.

Gummy bear? It's been in my pocket. They're real warm and soft.

Sotries like this remind me why I like it here.

I just posted this on Digg.com in response to the whole "best social " website question

http://digg.com/tech_news/Was_Digg_the_best_social_site_of_2007

Fark has a certain genuine absurdity that make it very refreshing. Drew isn't worrying about an IPO. He isn't worried about offending anyone. Drew's beer budget mentality is so refreshing, people actually pay $5 a month to revel in their misanthropy. While it is basically a community of assholes, it really has been able to maintain a sense of community. Plus it has that whole squirrel with the big balls thing going for it.

I wonder why Fark doesn't get more mainstream kudos, or is that actually the whole point? Fark is succeeding for the same reasons Craigslist is so successful. No, I wasn't only thinking about easy access to hookers who do greek.

Wow, just wow. I never thought to have this conversation on Fark. I've never seen the dog itself, but i have seen some very strange things in the "hall of trees" area around sunset. Also, in the forest preserve section on the road(if you pay attention, it continues back there).
