Kinda sad that they have to make themselves out to be someone else instead of defining their own identity. But then, pathetic is the new GOP.

Highroller48 [TotalFark] 2007-12-30 01:04:11 PM
What, you mean they're war criminals who illegally fund terrorist death squads, give arms to America's enemies, and perpetuate a Machiavellian foreign policy that results in the deaths of hundreds of thousands?

Or do they just like jellybeans?

Boojum2k 2007-12-30 01:38:55 PM
Highroller48: What, you mean they're war criminals who illegally fund terrorist death squads, give arms to America's enemies, and perpetuate a Machiavellian foreign policy that results in the deaths of hundreds of thousands?

No, I think they're trying to equate themselves to the real one.

Patty was clearly in a fowl mood when she wrote that piece. She's wrong about the current crop of republican pygmies who all if heaven forbid somehow attain the office would proudly don her father's detestable policies, may he moulder forever in hell

Cewley [TotalFark] 2007-12-30 02:08:09 PM
i have yet to see any of the candidates able to sleep for eight years.

Sounds like Reagan to me.

Weaver95: Reagan was a great guy. Good politican, good leader.

He was a politician through and through. He was a master of the art of marketing and public image. I would not call him a great leader, and was damn lucky that things worked out the way they did on the international stage.

Why would a presidential candidate admit to being afflicted by the onset of Alzheimer's?

Patty was clearly in a fowl mood when she wrote that piece.

Perhaps she's too chicken to say how she really feels.

brantgoose 2007-12-30 06:28:16 PM
Well, Thompson is making heroic efforts to be in the race while not entirely Being There but is obviously too smart. And Paul is doing more of a batshiat crazy H. Ross Perot impression. Guiliani seems sincerely, devoutly and truly crazy. The only plausibly senile candidate is McCain but what's the point? He's too old. Then again.... hmmmmmm! I nominate McCain as the most Reaganesque prat of the lot. Unless you count Clinton.

If you want another Reagan, just elect the biggist Nin-com-POOP!

I love saying that.

Those guys at Termite Terrace were the greatest comic geniuses ever given enough rope to hang themselves by pointy-haired bosses who didn't understand what the "creative talent" was up to but didn't want to question themselves out of the goose that laid the golden egg.

Nin Com POOP!

No, see now, there's a difference:

Kennedy actually made America a better place, whereas Reagan got people to think that he helped make America a better place but actually got away with murder and ate jellybeans. The former is worth honoring, the latter is not.

To prove his virility, Huckabee has been photographed in those ridiculous hunting clothes holding a large rifle and several dead pheasants

Christ, those were shotguns and the clothing is on par for pheasant hunting. I prefer more orange but mehhhh.

Please, Republican worship of Reagan makes JFK look like William McKinley. Your attempt at playing the equivalency game is hilariously transparent.

Talk about doublespeak.
You say you want a War On Terrorism
And then when your candidates come up they say they want to be like one of the world's most famous crooks and terrorists supporters.

I see the political acumen that led to two votes for Bush is as sharp as ever. Considering how consistently you manage to be catastrophically wrong, have you ever sat down and done some serious thinking about your basic assumptions?

Macular Degenerate 2007-12-30 08:30:15 PM
Astronomical expansion of presidential power
Equally astronomical expansion of privacy invasion
Unprecedented levels of secrecy and subterfuge
Votes for extra "emergency powers" that never get taken back

It all started with the Neocon tool Reagan and now you're reaping it's reward. Thank GOD I'm planning to leave this country of idiots. Everyone here is farking asleep

If any Republican who voted in the last thirty years did that, they would realize they've been played for fools since then. From Nixon to Dubya, all Republicans have been crooks who pull the flag out whenever they are about to get caught. And their fanbase couldn't realize this little factoid until it became evident to everybody through a collapsing economy and high gas prices.

limeyfellow 2007-12-30 09:07:32 PM
These bozos tho....bunch of idiots who seem to have forgotten what 'conservative' means.

So they are infact just like Reagan, who grew the government by the largest amount in US history, raised a massive deficit, ended up with increased taxes four times in two years after he realised how bad his tax cuts were, introduced more socialist policies on what can and can not be done and implemented some of the worse gun control laws of the century, spent more money on foreign affairs and interferring of other countries for the social benefit of Americans. No one has done more for the liberal movement in decades.

The sad thing is that people forget all that and build a myth around a man that has more in common with Hillary Clinton than the supposed Republican platform. He did managed to promote some conservative policies though for at least a year before turning back to his prior ways. Just because you proudly proclaim being a conservative or liberal doesn't mean you are close to being one, and in truth everyone is a bit of both.

So it's a contest over which one is the biggest chicken hawk, homophobic puppet leader with terminal brain rot?

Jjaro 2007-12-31 12:22:29 AM
Oh I must have wandered into the semi-regular Reagan-bashing thread full of revisionist historians who claim that only Republicans liked Reagan, and that he was a murderer and that he had "terminal brain rot" throughout his entire presidency, instead of his last few months, at most. He wasn't by any means perfect, as the AIDS debacle goes to show, but he did much more good than ill for our country, and it gets kinda annoying to hear all of these farkers claiming that Reagan and all Republican presidents and murderers, when they were instituting the same types of foreign policies as many Democrats, especially JFK.

The one with Alzheimer's disease who began displaying symptoms in the mid-1960's with "amusing" gaffes, ossified foreign and domestic policy and inane misquotes of famous Americans, and who ended his days a tragic mental and physical wreck unable to remember his wife and children's names?

Jim_Callahan 2007-12-31 03:59:15 AM
The_OcO: Why would a presidential candidate admit to being afflicted by the onset of Alzheimer's?

Normally the Reagan-hate annoys me to no end, as I feel it's bashing someone who was by and large a good guy, did what he thought was best, and generally succeeded in doing much more good than harm... but this one made me laugh. Well done.
