Nah it means they lie just that much more often!

Of course, the corollary of that argument is that Fox, CNN, and MSNBC have more time to lie to you, and they have slicker graphics.

What it always seems like to me, both in the US and here in Canada, is that a candidate will make a statement, somebody will prove it false, and the candidate can just ignore them and keep making the statement. The just rely on the fact that not enough people stay well informed enough to know they are lying. With the exception of big stories like the Romney-MLK one at least...and even then it's not like that corresponded with a dip in the polls or anything

/too lazy to check if thats actually the case or not
//figuring no one is reading this at this time anyways...

I think submitter is lying.

On that note, though, I think a good tool has been the blogosphere. They seem to be much more honest about candidates than traditional media narratives, with longer memories and a greater willingness to call a spade a spade. Plus, they don't have to worry about "presenting both sides" when one side is clearly full of shyte (god, I hate that about news stations).

No, the INTERNET is making it harder for presidential candidates to lie to you. The 24-news cycle keeps repeating the lie in hopes you'll actually believe it. Don't trust the mainstream news, it is not your friend.

I think if the article proves anything, it's that they have a really easy time lying to you. That said, it looks like the Huckster forgot Poland.

Damn straight. Do you expect them to explicitly admit they lied or that they were wrong in the middle of the campaign? Who do you think they are, people with morals?

magores 2007-12-30 09:25:40 AM
I think it's pretty much a given that candidates for anything are going to lie occasionally. In many cases, they are small lies that can (fairly) easily be counted as "wishful thinking".

The problem I have is with the outrageous lies, and the people that accept them without thinking.

24 hour news cycles are making it harder for the presidential candidates to lie to you without help from the media.

Fixed that for ya, Subby.

Yet Bush does it 24/7. As does Bill Richardson. As does Mitt Romney. Ok, Ok. As does everyone.

Politicians' rules:

1. Everything I say is a lie.
2. Statement 1 is true.

24 hour news cycles are making it harder to lie about missing hot blonde white chicks.

Seconded.

It's been said before, but yeah cable news let's them "propel the propaganda", etc...

Gosling [TotalFark] 2007-12-30 04:25:32 PM
You just have to be really careful about exactly WHO you trust. Even though cable news as a whole sucks, Anderson Cooper and Tim Russert, for example, are good and trustworthy. And the Internet isn't exactly all trustworthy either- look at the reaction here anytime something from NewsMax gets greenlit.

Rubbish - the 24-hour news cycle just exacerbates Leonard Shelby syndrome.

skookum 2007-12-30 05:28:57 PM
The liberal media will indeed hang itself the day it releases information that leads to another attack on this country. It will be a very interesting day indeed to see who comes to their side when that finally happens.

I agree with you in theory, but watch what you wish for -- Fox News only presents one side, and look what kind of "news" network they've turned out to be.

*checks*

Looks like they've still got it well in hand.

I thought it was the truth-o-meter that was making it harder to get away with lying
