Eh, the banks already commit armed robbery everytime they send me my student loan update.

Seriously.

The postal guy has a shotgun.

So let me see if I've got this right... America (Land of the Free(TM)), denies health care and college education to the poor unless they join the armed forces. Effectively, conscription of the poor. Don't you think that's a bit, uh, repellant? I don't think anybody else in the world does that.

macker 2007-12-30 08:06:38 AM
Eh, they made off with 130k. If they were that desperate to cover the difference, they could have robbed less. I call bullshiat. They should sell pot to their friends like everyone else does in college to make an extra buck for tuition.

I say let's amend the Declaration of Independence to say Life, Liberty, Health, Education and the Pursuit of Happiness. Not everybody has to go to school but if you choose to do so it shouldn't be kept from you because you can't afford it. Same thing for health care - I don't run to the hospital for every bump and bruise I get, but next time I'm mauled by the neighbor's dog I'd like to be able to go to the hospital without wondering what this is going to do to my credit score.

20 year sentence, so that means they get a free education while in prison and are out in 4 years with a degree courtesy of the tax payer. They'll come out ok if they don't get shanked first.

20, and 22 yr old, yeah, they can pass the BAR exam in their first week.

Just drop the bar in the shower, and Ben Dover, pick it up.

If this were in Canada, the entire article would have been dedicated to slamming the Universities for having such high tuition. How dare they expect people to pay for it!!!!!

No Such Agency 2007-12-30 09:11:06 AM
I'm not even surprised, universities are hardcore liberal indoctrination grounds, and nobody has a sense of entitlement like a liberal. The robbers probably believed they was just redistributing wealth, Karl Marks style. Frankly, I've never met anyone worth a damn who had a university degree in anything other than engineering (except the software guys who all seemed to be lazy hippies).

Quite honestly, there's significant national benefit to making tuition free. Or at least there would be, if all our best and brightest, and mediocre too, weren't seduced away to America. Perhaps the current economic state of affairs will change that... for a while. However, application difficulty should also rise.

Yes, I'm currently a student and so I would benefit from my argument, but I wasn't always a student. (Yeah, I'm one of them "mature" students. Not all it's cracked up to be.)

... Or maybe not.

Translation: "I don't know what they get up to in them universities, but they're all lieberals, and communists. Damn lazy hippies - I'm surprised they're not ALL criminals, though it wouldn't surprise if they ARE and we just haven't caught 'em all yet."

Respect noted and much appreciated, but trust me. I know whereof I speak. I live among strange people.

I DRTFA, but what you all might not know is that the bank heist was not the first for these criminal masterminds. I tried all month to find a place they could rob.

Also, Bush received and MBA not an engineering degree so I guess he's on your list of people who are not worth a damn?

That's contradictory. You can't have Liberty with Health and Education. Because as long as I'm paying for your Health and Education, I'll want you to take care of yourself. Manditory Bans on unhealthy foods and drinks. Smoking, gone. Drinking, gone. (It kills brain cells, and since I'm paying for your education, no more drinking.

Also, we'll get rid of skateboarding. Without the proper gear, they should be illegal.

Oh, I think we'll have a field day in the land of the free, and stupid.

Epsilon [TotalFark] 2007-12-30 09:55:38 AM
Bank robbery is one of the stupidest crimes you can commit. The average take is only a few thousand dollars, almost everyone gets caught, and if you use a weapon you'll get 10 to 20 years in prison. It's so not worth the risk.

No Such Agency: Nice troll. BTW, it's spelled Marx, not "Marks."

On other notes, I knew someone who tried to rob for tuition money. Only he tried to rob an individual that he knew who had some extra cash on hand. Needless to say, he had issues (*cough*sociopath*cough*).

Ed Willy 2007-12-30 10:03:52 AM
My university (Michigan State) robs me every time they raise tuition. Seriously. They piss and moan every year that the state gives them less money, yet every year they jack up the college president's salary $25,000 or so, because they want to be in the top five best paid college presidents in the Big Ten.

Also, they only fundraise to build shiat they really don't need so donors can have their name on the campus. They built an extension to the stadium for new offices and $10,000 dollar a season seating, extended the football stadium, are building a shooting range on campus.

Also, the head of our Board of Trustees Joel Ferguson got a $45 million no bid contract to move the State Police headquarters off campus. This was at the same time they jacked tuition 10% and the state is in a budget crisis.

I'm not sure where to look up the statistics but I'd be willing to bet that, generally speaking, people with a quality education are more prone to taking care of their selves, watching what they eat and drink, and make enough money to pay for their own health insurance. So, by stepping on the ability of people to become educated you would in effect raise your own taxes since the money would be going toward things like health insurance and the like. I'm not going to argue for a bigger government, just a more responsible one.

And as far as I'm aware most places make you wear protective gear when riding skateboards so that point is pretty much moot.

What about getting a burger from guys with a degree from Hamburger University? Or being entertained by folks who graduated from Clown College? I think all of these learned skillz are very much worth a damn.

If by free, you mean that the professors donate their time, and the schools donate their resources, I'm with you. However, I'd bet your idea of free is to make everyone else pay for your education via higher taxes. IMO you might as well cut out the middleman, get a gun and go rob someone.

Also, higher education is not for everyone, only those who can afford it. So you cant afford it? don't go.

Our current system favors people with money rather than talent and it is starting to show in the corporate and political worlds. We have lots of underachieving morons from fairly well off families running things.

We really need to start giving free tuition to the extremely talented who can't afford it.

Actually, the only person who has a bigger sense of entitlement than a liberal is a neo-con. And, by the way, his name is Karl Marx. As in Marxist. You big farking dope.

It's nice to see the "pull yourselves up by your bootstraps" crowd out in force.

Robbing people isn't the anwser, but the current funding system isnt the anwser either.

I plan on financing my retirement through armed robbery...seeing as how the government taxing me to the point I can't save enough, and will not be able to pay my social security.

If they catch me, they'll have to pay my old person medical bills.

I was turned down for a loan because my dad declared me on his taxes. I ended up dropping out of college after the first year because I couldn't continue working (at this point I was working one 40 hour a week job and a second part time job) while trying to keep up with my schoolwork.

As for higher education only being for those who can afford it, go fark yourself you elitist fark, everyone should be allowed an opportunity to get an education if they want it.
