I don't think this is as rare as people think. If my wife and I rent the farm we've got our dough split between family members w/ the provision that they take care of our pets (we checked w/ them when we made our will). If you liquidate all our assets including our 401K/ROTH/IRA/Life Ins it's over a million.

I gave my Dog my Pathfinder. Nice car in great condition, and now it's all this. Whenever I take him anywhere it's in that, and that's about the only time it gets driven. Meanwhile I have to make myself happy in my new Murano S - AWD.

It's not so much leaving money to a pet. It's leaving funds for the care taking and ensuring the wellbeing of a pet, to typically a 3rd party to be decided by either a judge, or named in the will to use in doing so.

The remaining funds upon the expiration of the animal will revert to the estate, unless otherwise specified in the will.

Amusing? I find this repulsive. When someone is that despicable to leave money to dogs instead of unfortunate humans, it makes me wonder what kind of world we live in today. It could have gone towards research centers and other places. It could have gone towards many things, not three damn dogs.

This also makes people in my area (yes, I live close to that area) look like snooty jackasses.

I hate this world and many of those who inhabit it.

Dogs don't have SSN's... Dogs probably don't pay inheritance taxes. Dogs don't care what their fica score is. A person probably cannot collect on a dog or have judgments against them in court for bad debts. Gotta be some clever tax attorney behind this.
