They claim Constitutional rights, but I'm curious as to which right, exactly. There are already littering laws on the books, and clearly they aren't claiming the right to litter, so the article is obviously missing some important details.

skitzo isn't right, but the sentiment is understandable. It's the same thing as flipping off someone who just cut you off on the freeway. Terrible thing to say. Littering is littering. If you throw a butt and it burns someone on a bike, or worse it burns down a forest the least of your punishment should be a dent in your door. Don't litter.

Time to implement a "cigarette butt deposit", 10 cents a butt, hell, 25 cents even!

Would be a great deterrent to using the filthy things, not just littering the butts...

Cops do have this hypersensitivity to some things. But while I think they tend to take it way far sometimes, there are a whole bunch of people out there who don't like them and will do anything they can to make their lives miserable. Once someone gets into that mode, the cop has no idea whather he's going to pull out a gun and cap their ass.

While there are probably a few cops out there who deserve it, most are just trying to do their jobs, so I'm inclined to cut them just a little slack when a driver starts to act belligerent. You never know what's going to happen.

The last time I looked the 5th Amendment states that I don't have to "cooperate" with a cop. I keep a capped soda bottle half-full of water to put my cigs in after I'm done. I never smoke while driving (too damn dangerous on a motorcycle), but I'll sometimes pull over for a stretch and a smoke on a long trip

Cigarette tossers should be charged with attempted arson. Especially from a car. Just like a DUI, no crime has been committed, no one hurt, YET.

I saw a little kid, 4 or 5 yo, pick up a cigarette butt and hold it up to his mouth. He was lagging behind his momma, all it took was a couple seconds. He was imitating the grown ups.

Not a fan of cops, per se, but they were actually doing their job in this case. Litering is against the law, and for a very good reason. The people who act like it is their God-given right to use the world as their ash tray are supreme assholes.
