Many people think my idea for securing the Mexican border from illegals is cruel and inhumane but here goes...

A 1/2 mile wide stip of land on the Mexican border stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean should be fenced in using an electric fense and completely done up in barb wire. The space between the fences should be laid with land mines so dense that not even a rabbit can make it through.

Harsh, or should I run for a public office?

semiotix 2007-12-29 10:32:23 PM
This is totally unfair. Where would the illegal immigrant be without the illegal immigrant employer? Not here, anyway.

ayestyles 2007-12-29 10:33:10 PM
It won't be long until the illegals are the majority. Then viola! democracy says the country is theirs (or is it already). Wake up America.

From TFA: "he breaks the law by his very presence"

This is something I hear frequently, usually used in order to degrade immigrants and justify seizing their property. If you owe money on your taxes, is your very existence illegal? As soon as you run a red light are you supposed to turn yourself in for breaking the law, lest you commit a crime with every breath? Are illegals committing crimes in their sleep now?

semiotix 2007-12-29 10:34:37 PM
Faps_in_the_kitchen: The space between the fences should be laid with land mines so dense that not even a rabbit can make it through.

Actually, I love it. Of course, if a rabbit tried anyway, there might be some small problems. But I recommend you work up a small-scale demo in your backyard, so that you'll have some empirical data to convince people with.

The commies were good at sealing borders, hire a few of the East germans as consultants, our government doesn't seem to be capable of doing the job.

Ding!

Crack down on the employers and illegal immigration solves itself. They also have the advantage of being much easier to find and take care of.

The illegals and their supporters who claim a "human right" to be here in the USA amuse me.

No doubt that if Mexico was being flooded by poor "undocumented"s they would welcome them with warm, open arms.

No, wait a sec....

Just imagine how badly they would be treated there if they actually spoke a different language and demanded government services in that language.

Or claimed a large chunk of the country as their "ancestral homeland"....

To their champions, illegal immigrants are decent, hardworking people who, like generations of European immigrants before them, just want to do better for their families and who contribute to America's prosperity.

Then just do it LEGALLY! We have LAWS that govern how to LEGALLY immigrate into the United States of America. They are not that restrictive or difficult. If you want to be a productive member of the US society then following the laws of that society seems to be pretty important to me.

/How does that make me evil?

Did anyone else fully read this article?

If I'm to believe what I read, and I'd like to think that I did, our illegal friends are seemingly better than hot apple pie, Thanksgiving football, and porn all rolled together.

I'm strongly for tight border control and harsh prosecution of employers of those illegals of the damp persuation, but I'm not naive enough to think that illegal immigrants don't bring some positives with them as well.

Outside of local taxation issues, are there no other faults? Seriously?

Yes. They committed one crime by coming over the border, and it continues as long as they don't turn themselves in or LEAVE.

That's why they're called ILLEGAL immigrants

I like Stephen Colbert's idea. Put the ever-growing elderly class to work by building a 2,000 mile front porch across the border. Put some old geezers on it and the illegals will think twice about coming onto our "lawn."

Yes they are. It can take years to come to the country. Put up the fences and motes, I dont care. America has the right to defend its borders. But cut alot of the red tape it takes to get in to the country and you'll have more people coming here legally! If it was so easy to come to the country why would so many people do it illegally?

Just because doing the right thing might sometimes be hard doesn't mean that we shouldn't do it. The longer we allow a huge group of people who are not even citizins of our country scoff at and make a mockery of our laws and just look the other way the worse it is going to get.

Well, since they are already here now they will live off welfare and we will pay for it. If you think the government will really deport them keep waiting. This won't end unless the people of the United States take a stand and do something themselves.

I personally think that the government should allow immigrant bounty hunters and off rewards for each head they get. Think of the money they would be saving over the life and reproductive cycle (one kid a minute) of that one immigrant.

Not to mention, the crime in question amounts to farking trespassing. Look out! They're a bunch of hardened criminals that cut through yards! Oh, the humanity!

I've actually seen some rabid minuteman-types get absolutely irate that they are trespassing, and phrase it as such. There was one guy on Yahoo Answers who asked "what if someone was looking to make a better life for himself and his family, but they had to commit the crime of trespassing to do so? Where would your sympathy be then?!" The sad part is, he honestly thought of trespassing as some major crime against all that's good and holy, not the parody most of you probably think it was.

Sure, let's make it easier for people from other countries to get into our country and how soon do you think we'd start seeing suicide bombers on the streets of major cities around the country?

We do NOT NEED large numbers of immigrants into the US like we once did when our country was being founded. If people truly want to come to America then they should be willing to undertake the efforts as set-forth by our laws. In the time it takes to become a citizin they can get a green-card and work LEGALLY in the country.

As Milton Friedman said about this problem in about 1980, this is a terrible situation. Everyone benefits from immigration. The immigrants benefit from having an improved standard of living, and Americans benefit from the labor that they provide. Yet the US turns these mexicans into criminals and now must suffer the burden of waging a war against the market.

After all, America was built on the backs of poor, uneducated and often non english speaking immigrants.

Pretty decent article considering it was the DMN. Certainly people who are here illegally both help and hinder our society not unlike any of us. The issue is this. How much more or less does this illegal contribute than you do? The pure anger and venom I see spit frightens me and reminds me of growing up around racists. My wife, daughter and youngest son all sport a dark complexion thanks to my philipino mother-in-law. I worry for all of them. Thanks to Oklahoma's new draconian laws regarding illegals, my wife's boss took her aside the other day and asked her what her nationality was. People are really afraid here. Sigh.

90% of everyone has their wages ( standard of living ) depressed by illegal aliens and poor legal immigrants. We need to create labor shortages to close the gap between rich and poor.

I'll debate with you why it's a good idea to close the gap between rich and poor if you want, but from the perspective of the the working people, it's irrelevant. Their standard of living should matter to them and their families who are dependent on them.

You fail at economics. Most people don't want to embalm the dead. But it needs to be done. How do we solve that? You can charge lots of money, and people are willing to pay it, because nobody wants to do it themselves. Undertakers are generally upper middle-class sucesses, active in many areas apart from their actual employment. They're rotarians, and members of the chamber of commerce. They're active in local politics.

Or, you could import a group of illiterate mexicans who not only do not add much to community life beyond their specific labour. They undercut the standard of living, and decrease overall wages for whatever occupation they have.

Undertaking and Embalming. It's work nobody want to do. You can safely carry this example across every area where mexicans have become the lowest common denominator.

In addition to my yard, just built a new house out here in Katy and I got a porch extension, customized interior paint job, bookshelves, media room wiring, extra ceiling fans, fabulous decorative stonework and extra landscaping, sprinkler system and drainage piping for the front and back by you guessed it..... immigrant workers, our man of the year.

\ and at a huge discount, I need not necessarily add.

If money and goods cross the border freely, than so should people. You can be a real capitalist and believe in closed borders. It's an artificial barrier to trade.

Ok, so please defend your stance on why we need to make it easier for immigrants to become citizens. Your earlier reasoning...

"so less people would come here illegally"

Isn't a good enough reason.

SuperDuper28 2007-12-29 11:14:53 PM
Might as well stop beating around the bush. Invite Mexico to become a US unincorporated territory like Guam and Puerto Rico and make them US citizens. More people to take care of yes but that would also boost our economy while greatly increasing the standard of living for Mexicans living in Mexico and thus removing one of the main reasons they migrate to the US in the first place.
